关于我们
Youth Leadership Institute builds communities where young people and their adult allies come together to create positive community change. For over 20 years, we have sparked change through our California community-based programs--in San Francisco, Marin, San Mateo and Fresno Counties--and our national Training and Consulting Services. The Youth Leadership Institute leads the way in engaging youth in several key areas of community change, including food access, youth philanthropy, educational equity, civic engagement, and prevention of alcohol, tobacco, and other drug use. YLI is committed to engaging and developing young people of color, low-income youth, and other non-traditional leaders as agents for social justice.

Honored to attend the Long Beach Youth Community Conversation with Attorney General Rob Bonta's Office of Community Awareness, Response, and Engagement (CARE)! We made sure youth voices were heard loud and clear on the issues that matter—education, climate sustainability, gun violence prevention, and social justice. Shoutout to Long Beach Community Action Partnership for hosting us and to Special Assistant Attorney General Damon M. Brown and Deputy Attorney General Theresa Zhen for sharing their insights. Big thank you to Albert Lord for all the support in making this happen! Yvie, Bri, and Sara repped Youth Leadership Institute's?Long Beach site strong, and Giselle covered the story, and Itzel, our incredible adult ally, was in the house! And of course, much love to Bridge Builders Foundation Los Angeles for sponsoring the much-needed snacks—we appreciate you! Young people are leading the way, and we’re here to uplift their solutions for a stronger, more just California. ?#YouthLeadershipInstitute #YouthVoice #CivicEngagement #JusticeForAll

Way to go Carolyn! Proud to have you on the team ?
Across the world, March 8 is celebrated as #InternationalWomensDay, a day where we honor the accomplishments and contributions of women while recognizing the issues that affect women in our communities every day. Throughout California's Central Valley, women work tirelessly to inform their communities, tell their stories and forge a path towards a brighter future for the next generation of leaders. Their efforts are what makes California a shining beacon of hope and progress. Help us celebrate their achievements! yli has just endorsed AB 248, which ensures dignity, fairness, and financial stability for California's incarcerated workers. Current law (Penal Code § 4019.3) sets a maximum wage of $2.00 per eight-hour shift for incarcerated workers in the custody of county jails. AB 248 would repeal this maximum wage and would allow counties to set their own wages for incarcerated workers under their jurisdiction. This bill does not require counties to pay wages to incarcerated workers; it simply gives them the authority to do so. yli partners with thousands of youth across the state, the majority of whom are low-income youth of color. We witness first hand the impacts of our state’s harmful “justice” system on their lives, and are staunch advocates of measures that will reduce the criminalization and incarceration of our loved ones - and ensure their fair treatment while incarcerated. When your work is to support underserved communities, it is key to lead with compassion and courage. Leading through crisis and difficult times requires us to lift up the strengths of our team so they can continue to impact and serve the community. The folks at Reading and Beyond are doing just that, it has been encouraging to train and coach them. David Bouttavong Sandra Flores Youth Leadership Institute
