Advocating to transform foster care and juvenile justice systems across the nation so every child and youth can thrive.
关于我们
Youth Law Center (YLC) is a nonprofit legal advocacy organization that has worked for four decades to transform foster care and juvenile justice systems across the nation so every child and youth can thrive. YLC’s advocacy aims to ensure children and youth are not only protected from harm and dangerous conditions in systems, but also receive the support, opportunities and love they need to grow up healthy and happy through child-focused, research-informed advocacy strategies, including litigation, policy reform, media advocacy, collaborative system-change projects, training and advice, and public education.

This has already been a challenging year for our children and youth- full of anxiety, displacement, loss, and threats of danger and harm. We strongly believe that when times are hard, we need to focus even more on the places where we find the sparks of change and hope for our youth - they are in the collective community of advocates, including youth, families, lawyers, agency leaders and staff, working to prioritize love and opportunity for children and youth across the country. https://lnkd.in/ggfC8PvS

The Youth Law Center was mentioned in a New York Times Magazine feature article, "What Happened When America Emptied Its Youth Prisons: Lessons from a radical 20-year experiment and a quiet triumph of public policy." The mention included in the New York Times Magazine is from a 2004 Los Angeles Times article, "Youth Authority to Review Use of Cages," featuring the Youth Law Center's legal advocacy work.

The Youth Law Center is committed to ending the criminalization, institutionalization, and dehumanization of children through advocacy that ensures the young people and families most affected have the power, opportunities, and resources to create a different future. As 2024 comes to a close, we invite you to make a donation to support our work transforming foster care and juvenile justice systems to ensure that experiences in these systems are a moment in time, rather than a life sentence, for children, and creating a world where the odds are stacked for them, not against them: https://lnkd.in/ePPT5crz

In October, the Quality Parenting Initiative hosted a multi-generational group including youth who had experienced #fostercare as teenagers, along with foster parents, birth parents, and relatives who have parented teens in foster care to offer valuable, practical guidance on how foster care systems can apply research findings to improve policies and practices.
