Calling all Austin elementary school teachers! Join the Museum of Science, Boston, for a free one-day workshop on our newest curriculum, Youth Engineering Solutions (YES). Developed by the same research-driven and student-focused team that brought you Engineering is Elementary (EiE), YES is the next generation of engineering education and is aligned to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) standards! During this workshop, participants will: learn how to access the now free YES and EiE resources; engage in an elementary engineering unit that integrates into science content; and explore the free teacher and student resources YES and EiE have to offer. This full-day, learner-driven workshop introduces participants to the concepts of engineering and prepares them to facilitate high-quality engineering with students. As NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration’s Europa Clipper continues towards Jupiter’s moon, we’ve got more pressing issues here on land-- like launching our own rocket and learning to gather information from far away! With our “Liftoff! Engineering Rockets and Rovers” and “Worlds Apart: Engineering Remote Sensing Devices" units, students not only get to think like engineers, they get to BE engineers. Made for grades 3-5, “Liftoff! Engineering Rockets and Rovers” explores how to test a model rocket, assess how weight impacts rocket flight, and so much more. The “Worlds Apart: Engineering Remote Sensing Devices" unit for grades 6-8, guides students in informal learning settings (i.e., after school, camps, etc.) through making and testing technology to gather information from a "mystery moon” in space.
