During our Community Level Engagement Forum in Masvingo, Mr Joseph Gusha the Youth Focal Person from Masvingo City Council stressed the fact that young people play an important role in local governance, bringing new ideas and original solutions to problems which touch upon the community's interest. Youth Decide Zimbabwe (YDZ) is a youth-led organization formed in 2019, legally registered as a national youth association in 2020 with a mandate of enhancing youth participation in governance and democratic processes through advocacy, mobilization, and capacity building. Our work also includes youth advocacy and lobbying initiatives to increase space to lead for young people in sustainable development. Our Vision is an inclusive and prosperous society where young people meaningfully participate in governance processes YDZ has implemented advocacy campaigns promoting inclusive governance, social accountability, youth agency, and participation in democratic processes across all 10 provinces in Zimbabwe. YDZ have youth champions and focal persons in all 10 provinces. Over the past four years, YDZ has engaged in design thinking exercises, advocacy efforts, and co-creation initiatives aimed at addressing challenges facing young people, especially within social accountability/governance spheres, across Zimbabwe. The organization has spearheaded advocacy efforts to engage local authorities in localized youth policies and pro-youth budgetary allocations. YDZ adheres to a robust internal governance and control mechanisms for legitimacy, transparency, and accountability.

Last week, Youth Decide Zimbabwe, in collaboration with Real Agenda For Youth Transformation, hosted a successful Community-Level Engagement Forum in Masvingo. The forum focused on empowering youth participation and agency, including the identification and resolution of issues affecting young people in the community.
