关于我们
YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley is on a mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and promote peace, justice, freedom, and dignity for all. For over 140 years, your YWCA has been meetings our community’s most pressing needs. We are one of the first multiservice agencies in the Bay Area, and have three priority service areas: (1) Empowering people & communities in healing from and preventing the trauma of violence, bigotry & racism; (2) Achieving solutions to homelessness for survivors of violence; and (3) Inspiring opportunity and economic security by closing the prosperity and education gap. Your YWCA is rooted in our Theory of Change which requires a continuum of response to the challenges of racism, sexism, and gender-based violence. That’s why we offer direct services to meet immediate needs, issue education to change hearts and minds in our local communities, and legislate advocacy to change the rules and systems in order to achieve greater equity and justice for all.

While #WomensHistoryMonth is a great opportunity to celebrate the past, it is equally important to use this month to look towards the future for women and girls. We honor our foremothers by creating and seeking opportunities to empower women, girls, and their communities. #ONEYWCA Find out more about how you can get involved with our movement: https://lnkd.in/gujvD6WU

“I think this is perhaps the first time in my experience that these dollars are even at risk of going away,” YWCA Chief Program Officer Melissa Luke told San José Spotlight. “I think these are really difficult conversations and decisions to have when your budget is 30% funded by the federal government. And it’s not just about numbers, it’s about on the ground services that you are providing when you know those populations are already so vulnerable.” San José Spotlight brining awareness about the harsh reality housing programs are facing. https://lnkd.in/gM3cTMt5

One of my favorite times of the year is awards season at YWCA Golden Gate Silicon Valley, when I get to call the honorees from my organization and break the news. This year, I'm excited to celebrate two Cisco winners - Kelly McAskill-Petrich and Sarah Taketa! Kelly, I have always admired your leadership in community impact and how you weave it naturally into our culture. In the last year I've watched you scale and help us navigate critical conversations and opportunities for Cisco. Your impact exemplifies the spirit of the Tribute to Women awards, and I'm thankful for all that you do. Sarah, as an Emerging Leader honoree, I've been impressed by your leadership in 2 years at Cisco, starting in People & Communities and now stepping into AI and Sustainability. I can't wait to see where your career takes you! I still remember receiving my YWCA honoree call and being inspired by the positive impact everyone could make in their roles and industries. Congratulations to all this year's awardees - we are cheering you on in the Bay Area and beyond!
