Public transit investments are a crucial component of Boston’s strategy for sustainable transportation. The city has made several significant efforts to modernize and expand its transit system, reflecting a commitment to improving accessibility, reducing emissions, and accommodating a growing population. Boston has been transitioning its bus fleet to include more electric and hybrid vehicles. This move helps reduce emissions and improves air quality.? The city’s approach to bike infrastructure includes several key components designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and convenience for cyclists. Sarah Nguyen, a local cyclist and urban planner said the expansion of bike lanes and pedestrian-friendly areas makes a huge difference. It's empowering to have safer routes and see more people choosing biking over driving. Boston has implemented protected bike lanes on major streets, which are physically separated from vehicle traffic.? These lanes help improve safety by reducing the risk of collisions between cyclists and vehicles. In areas where full protection isn’t feasible, buffered bike lanes with additional space between cyclists and traffic are used to enhance safety and comfort. Boston operates a popular bike-sharing program called bluebikes. It provides residents and visitors with an affordable and convenient way to access bikes for short trips.?
