Excellent 10-year weight loss outcomes for both SG and RYGB (>60 %EBMIL) in the intention-to-treat population of the Swiss SM-BOSS RCT. The study also highlights the drawbacks of both procedures (GERD for SG, internal hernia for RYGB and weight regain for both, which was more frequent after SG). The evolution of the surgical techniques over the last 10-15 years may have tempered the risk of these long-term complications, however this needs to be proven in future studies, similarly to the 10-year outcomes, safety and societal price of the new generation anti-obesity medications. Freshly published study used video-based assessment to analyze the temporal occurrence, frequency, type, and grade of intraoperative adverse events (iAE)?in LRYGB surgery in a multicentric video dataset. Non surprisingly, gastric pouch creation, gastrojejunal anastomosis and jejunojejunal anastomosis are the most iAE-prone phases of LRYGB, which tend to happen more frequently with increasing operation duration.
