Young Voices RI

We are dedicated to empowering youth and elevating their voices. In 2022, we started to explore the concept of collaborating with high school youth as certified researchers with Kristine Durkin, PhD. Thanks to Dr. Durkin's partnership and leadership, we were able to make that a reality with her current research project. We are thrilled to share that their abstract, titled: "Amplifying Young Voices: Strategies for Building and Sustaining a Youth Advisory Panel?in Health Research" won the Diversity?Research?Award at Brown University's Mind Brain Research Day 2025! This research is part of a postdoctoral fellowship project, where we explore effective strategies for building and sustaining a Youth Advisory Panel (YAP) in health outcomes research. What makes this accomplishment even more special is that some of our youth, who are now?CITI certified, are co-authors of this publication! ?Their invaluable contributions to the project showcase the power of youth-led research in shaping and improving health outcomes. We're incredibly proud to see our youth co-authors take center stage in research, paving the way for future collaborations that uplift youth voices and bring their perspectives into important health research. Yesterday our youth panelists offered valuable insights on mental health, wellness and the supportive and detrimental aspects of social media. Marco Lima, YV’23 also gave us insights into youth experiences with social media algorithms and management. We also heard from parents and researchers across the country. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Caroline Kistin and Elizabeth Burke Bryant for their incredible partnership in making this event a success.
