??Today President Trump issued a new Memo, the latest in a troubling series of attacks on nonprofit organizations working - in the US and around the world - to provide food, shelter, and housing, eradicate disease, combat human trafficking, provide healthcare and early education, and much more. Let's be clear: the security, prosperity, and safety of the American people that this Memo expresses concern about are *enhanced* by the work of nonprofits and NGOs. Removing this vital funding or dismantling these organizations will not just diminish the United States here at home and around the world, it will cost lives. The work that nonprofit organizations do day in and day out to meet their lofty missions touches all of our lives, in each of our communities, and is truly what makes America great in the eyes of the world and at home.”

The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind for many nonprofits, from the more than 100 Executive Orders (EOs) issued by President Trump to the confusion about the funding freeze ordered in a memo from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB). While a judge granted an Administrative Stay in the case filed by the National Council of Nonprofits and others, and OMB rescinded the memo, the EOs are still in effect, and charitable nonprofits with federal grants are still feeling the impact of these decisions. The Office of Management and Budget rescinded its memo calling for a freeze of federal funding, but many nonprofits are still experiencing issues accessing their funds. We sent out an email today inviting those impacted by the potential funding freeze to join us for a meeting on 2/4 from 10:30-11:30am to discuss the developments and implications on local nonprofits. Shortly after, the memo ordering the freeze was rescinded by the White House. We are grateful to the National Council of Nonprofits for all of their continued work in this area. ??The White House has *rescinded the memo* that would have halted all federal grants and loans?? Nonprofits throughout the country - and the people they serve - can breathe a sigh of relief now that the White House has backed off its reckless and harmful plan to halt funding for critical programs from homeless/housing assistance, to disaster relief and rebuilding, to rape crisis centers and suicide hotlines. Keep doing your extraordinary, important work throughout the country, and we’ll stay vigilant and ready to act.
