What drew you to construction? "I was drawn to construction because of the variety of projects and the continuous growth and changes in the industry." ?? How long have you been part of Y&C? "I’ve been with Y&C for just over a year, and I love the balance—it’s a smaller company where every employee is valued, but we also take on a diverse portfolio of large projects." Favorite project? "I really enjoyed helping with the Veterans Center. It was fascinating to learn about our long history with The Salvation Army, and I loved the intricacies of the project." Best part of working in construction? "The ability to see tangible results of your labor every day and directly impact people’s lives." ?? Advice for young women in construction? "As a female in construction, there’s an opportunity to pave the way for future women in the industry. Meet Kelsey Fisher, Director of Finance & HR. ??♀? What drew you to construction? "I grew up in a construction family. My dad was a masonry contractor, and my uncle was a custom home builder. I always loved visiting job sites and seeing the construction process. It’s so rewarding to be a part of making someone’s dreams become reality." ??? How long have you been part of YC? "20 years! I started as the receptionist and worked my way up to Director of Finance & HR. I took a few classes along the way, but on-the-job training and a great mentor helped me get to where I am today. YC truly cares about its employees and makes it a healthy, enjoyable place to work. Balancing a career and family is challenging, but at YC, family comes first." ?? A proud accomplishment? "I’ve worked hard over the last 8–10 years to improve efficiencies in our accounting department. We transitioned to a paperless system, implemented new software, and enhanced our existing systems to better manage multiple companies. It’s been a game-changer for our reporting and operations." ?? Advice for those considering construction? "Bring your full, honest self to the company. Different companies have different needs, and something you may think is a fault could actually be a huge asset." Over the weekend, a few of our team members—Natasha Blouin, Katie DiBartolo, and Jordan Joyce-Harris—headed down to support CityTeam Portland’s monthly pop-up event, held every third Saturday. They brought along family members to volunteer together, distributing clothes, blankets, beverages, and hot meals side by side with the dedicated CityTeam staff. And, our team got to hear the success stories firsthand from those who have come through the program successfully, underscoring just how transformative CityTeam’s holistic approach can be. This monthly initiative meets immediate needs for those experiencing homelessness or food insecurity and bridges them to long-term support—everything from emergency shelter to addiction recovery and life-skills training. The success rate of this holistic approach speaks volumes to the lasting change CityTeam creates in people’s lives. We at Yorke & Curtis are incredibly proud to be the awarded contractor for the upcoming rehabilitation of the Overland Building, which will become the future home of CityTeam Portland.
