What if we rewrote a faulty script?
Re: Early Childhood Education
First, let's get rid of the terms daycare and childcare. They are outdated and off base. Please, do not use them anymore.
Second, let's ask our early learning teachers, directors, and entrepreneurs what they are in the business of selling. It's not simply supervision and safety, although both are important components of a high-quality early childhood education program.
In Dan Wuori's new book, The Daycare Myth, he shares his answer: early childhood education is "the optimization of human potential and co-creation of brain architecture."
My wish in 2025 and beyond is that we recognize the importance of high-quality early childhood education AND sustainably fund it. For the teachers, administrators, and small business owners who devote their lives to co-creating brain architecture. And for the children whose lives are being optimized.
