Today we hosted “Why York? How to Build a Sustainable Workforce, A Forum for Employers.” Through three sessions, attendees learned about Building Inclusive Workforces, Barriers to Economic Mobility, and Workers’ Perspectives and Labor Market Disparity. Congratulations Inch & Co. for breaking ground on the WellSpan Sports Complex this week! Once completed, this facility has the capacity to host over 40 tournaments and events in the first year, providing $19.3 million in revenue. WellSpan Health’s participation will allow users to have easy access to their sports medicine program and associated wellness programs on site. On an even larger scale, the facility is estimated to produce $1.9 million in new tax dollars. With an expected increase in tourism dollars from an estimated $5.2 million in annual hotel revenue. This would result in an approximately $262,080 in new hotel tax for York County. Beyond the economic impact of the new sports complex are countless community benefits including creating and retaining jobs from construction to ongoing operations of the facility, increasing foot traffic to our local businesses, and provides year-round public access to a sports space for the kids in our community. YCEA has actively supported this project through the York County Land Bank Authority which provided demolition funding to help prepare the former high school track and field complex for redevelopment after decades of underutilization.
