We're excited to participate in this year’s “Cap-to-Cap” delegation, organized by the Sacramento Metro Chamber. In May, leaders from the Sacramento Capital Region will head to Washington, D.C. to advocate for key issues such as economic development, transportation, education, and, of course, air quality. Just last week, we had our first Air Quality Team meeting with Valley Vision and other local organizations to discuss how we can champion cleaner air to improve public health and foster economic growth. The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District is now accepting applications for?nearly $3 million in funding?to?reduce emissions?across the region. Through the District’s?Clean Air Funds program and its 2025 Solicitation?for grant funding, financial support is available for projects focused on?clean vehicle upgrades, alternative transportation, and public education. We recently had the opportunity to check out the University of California, Davis Student Farm's new electric tractor, and it was pretty impressive! This high-tech tractor, equipped with a backup camera and touchscreen, is helping to reduce emissions on the farm. It’s been put to work on the Student Farm's research fields and specialty crop production beds, handling tasks like mowing, hauling, discing, and trailering. The Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District helped fund the new tractor. In the first photo, the District's Air Quality Planner Eden Winniford inspects the tractor, while Student Farm Equipment Manager Jim Muck demonstrates its capabilities. Electric vehicles, like this tractor, are essential for improving air quality by reducing harmful emissions from traditional gas-powered machinery. We kicked off the Super Bowl festivities early with a pre-game party here at the Yolo-Solano Air Quality Management District office! Thanks to our staff who made it possible and everyone who joined in for the fun. Our employees contribute voluntarily to a fund that allows us to occasionally host office activities like this. We had such a great time talking to Sustainable Solano Youth Air Protectors from Rio Vista High School at their first meeting of the year! We explained to the students how we regulate air quality in the region and protect residents from the harmful effects of air pollution. It’s so important for young people to be involved in efforts to protect public health. We look forward to continue working with the group as the semester continues!
