Thanks to a generous $35,000 grant, our YMCA of San Diego will be able to provide?age-appropriate resources and support for TK and kindergarten students in?before and after-school programs in the South Bay, helping them thrive both inside and outside the classroom. Reflecting on the exciting Rancho Family YMCA renovation groundbreaking event last month in February, we want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who made these upgrades possible. Here’s what’s coming: - Refreshed locker rooms for added comfort and convenience - A new preschool offering licensed, full-time, affordable care (opening in early 2026) - A relocated Child Watch in a refreshed space for your little ones - Two new Group Exercise Studios with state-of-the-art equipment - A refreshed pool for an improved aquatics experience - New exercise equipment to elevate your workouts Phase 1 of fitness construction is already underway with Phase 2 starting late summer/early fall. As we celebrate Women’s History Month, we honor the incredible contributions of women in our communities. At the #YMCA of San Diego County, women are leading the charge, breaking barriers, and empowering families through impactful programs that meet the needs of every woman, child, and family. Last weekend International Women’s Day, Rebecca Benny, the Y’s Director of Learning, Development and Design, joined Good Morning San Diego to share how the Y is making a difference.

Last Friday, we were proud to host the Black History Month Celebration & YMCA of the USA Watch Party at the Jackie Robinson Family YMCA. This event, organized by our dedicated Community Bridging & Engagement team, brought together our staff and community members to reflect on the immense contributions of African American leaders both past and present. ?As part of the We Wear Black initiative, we joined YMCAs across the country in wearing black to honor those who fought for justice and to continue engaging in meaningful conversations that bring people together and celebrate our shared history. Thank you to everyone who participated, and a special shoutout to Mr. Moto Pizza for generously donating delicious pizza to fuel our celebration. Together, we continue to put the Y’s mission into action, working toward a future that fosters a welcoming and engaging environment for all.

We're incredibly proud of our Senior Development Director, Anita Keller Scott, who recently spoke at the 2025 California Water Safety Summit as part of the "Ensuring No Kid Misses Out: Expanded Access to Swim Lessons" panel discussion. ?? Anita shared the impact of our donor-funded swimming lessons, offered at YMCAs across the county—Copley-Price Family Y, Border View Family Y, South Bay Family Y, Ryan Family Y, Mission Valley Y, and East County Ys. These lessons are helping make drowning prevention and swimming education accessible to all, ensuring every child has the opportunity to learn these vital skills. What an exciting time for our Rancho Y and Rancho Penasquitos community! ?? Yesterday we celebrated the groundbreaking event for the first phase of our capital renovation plan, where we’ll be upgrading our group exercise studios and building a brand new preschool! ?????♂? From our Executive Director Blaze Zarev to our Board Chair Chris Barry, to our senior leadership and generous donors, we all put on hard hats and kicked off this monumental project together. This is just the beginning of a brighter future for our community! ??
