The 2024-25 program year for Black Achievers is off to an incredible start! Achievers, volunteers, guardians, and community partners have begun an exciting year of learning and growing together. On a recent Saturday session, a few highlights included: ???? Employees of Catalent Pharma Solutions LLC Winchester office facilitated STEM projects for the middle school cluster, sparking imagination, problem-solving - and fun! ?? ???? ?? ???? Chancellor Scott with NAREB presented to the parent cluster about homeownership. ?? ???? Jubilee Jobs partnered with the engineering cluster to offer Virtual Reality career simulations. Using VR technology, Achievers were beamed into the day of the life of professionals in a variety of fields. ??? ???? The healthcare cluster discussed the social determinants of health and examined Lexington, KY. Then they explored the career of health promotion and addressing SDOH through evidence-based curriculum. ?? Sessions through the year combine education, experience, field trips, speakers, mentorship, and more to give Achievers exposure to college and career opportunities. We love seeing the varied content and the Achievers so engaged with our community!

October was an incredible month. Here are just a few of the month's highlights: ???♀? EGYM launched at the Whitaker Family YMCA - we are the first YMCA in Kentucky y'all that has this innovative smart strength circuit exercise equipment ?? Our first ever watch party started off with the Blue Zones documentary about lessons for living longer from the people who've lived the longest at the North Lexington Family YMCA ??????Black Achievers students visited and learned about Kentucky State University ?? 50 students from University of Kentucky Public Health enjoyed a visit at the North Lexington Family YMCA for UK Deal Day, an event designed to connect students with community career and internship opportunities. ?? We saw all the littles at our Trunk-or-Treat and some very creative trunks; thank you to all those who donated candy! ?? Our bike club enjoyed their last group ride of the season and the weather was perfect! ??? Over 1,100 individuals joined us in downtown Frankfort for our annual Black Cat Chase 3K. ?? Participants in the winter session of LIVESTRONG at the YMCA enjoyed some outdoor pickleball and fresh fall air! ?? Our C.M. Gatton Beaumont YMCA Barracudas swim team participated in their annual Swim-A-Thon! This is their biggest team fundraiser every year and proceeds go towards training equipment and more! ????Active older adults joined us for our annual Senior Health and Resource Fair and several lunch & learns and workshops. As we head into the month of November, we're filled with gratitude for all who made these moments possible and excited to continue building a stronger, healthier, and more connected community! ??
