Recently, Yinghua students had the opportunity to participate in the 2024 "Chinese Bridge" Global Chinese Conference for Foreigners - Dubbing Show. Yinghua had 29 students participate and five Yinghua students won awards across the youth group and children group, out of 940 contestants from 67 countries. Yinghua was proud to take part in a documentary about the history of the federal school lunch program and its evolution from the 1940s to the present, as Minnesota is one of eight states with a universal meals program for students. The documentary was created and filmed by Retro Report, a New York-based 10-year-old nonprofit documentary film group with a combined journalism and education mission, and families can now watch the 10-minute documentary online below. We are glad to participate in Minnesota's Free School Meals program and make sure all of our students have breakfast and lunch.

Last week, about 30 Yinghua middle school students visited the University of Minnesota to attend the Microfilm Festival award ceremony hosted by the Chinese Flagship Program at the U of M. Six groups of Yinghua students won various awards, including Best Film, Best Story, Best Acting, Creative Award, Above and Beyond Award, and Best Language Award. Our Dragon Life Organization leaders also performed a song during the awards ceremony and toured part of the U of M campus after the ceremony. We are so proud of our Yinghua students! Last Thursday, we were pleased to host Rebecca Wiegel and Mary Weerts from the Barrington School District in Illinois! Ms. Wiegel is the Director of Language Programs, Grants & Family Engagement, and Ms. Weerts is a Middle School Chinese Immersion History Teacher for Barrington. This is a greatly valued partnership with another program as Yinghua and immersion programs strive to give our students the best education possible. ? We were honored to host Anne Gardon, the Head of Primary from Chinese International School (CIS), a bilingual school based in Hong Kong, on Monday! Yinghua often serves as a model of Chinese immersion for schools around the world, and we greatly appreciate all of our partnerships with other programs. Yesterday, October 15th, Yinghua celebrated National Unity Day! Our community wore orange as a symbol of our commitment towards bullying prevention. We are also in the midst of building a partnership with the Cook Center for Human Connection to provide teachers, students, staff and their families with mental wellness support.
