Planetary research in the footsteps of giants…Old School Style! I’m absolutely loving my time at Yerkes Observatory, surrounded by incredible Earthlings who are guiding me through this treasure trove of historic wonders! I’m having a wild time going old-school—ditching the computer and swapping technology for books. Historical treasure fact: an index card I stumbled upon showed that none other than Carl Sagan himself checked out a book here on October 28th, 1957! He went on to complete his Ph.D. at Yerkes in 1960. Tonight’s adventure? A private viewing with the legendary 40-inch Refractor for some telescopic observations. Thank you to the amazing Yerkes team and Amanda Bauer for these unforgettable opportunities, and a big thanks to the weather gods for cooperating for tonights celestial observations!

关于我们
Restoration in progress! We're open for tours, programs, observing nights (spring, summer, fall), and an array of diverse speakers. Tickets and program info is on our website. Rising from the shoreline of Geneva Lake, Henry Ives Cobb's architectural masterpiece and the Olmsted Brothers' 50-acre slice of landscaped grandeur create a symbiosis of craftsmanship and nature. Thanks to our community for your patience during our metamorphosis. The architects, designers, and tradespeople from all walks of life have taken remarkable pride in restoring Yerkes Observatory's campus to its original 19th Century splendor while rocketing it into the 21st Century and beyond for generations to come. Hello Chicago and Wisconsin! So elated as the next exciting chapter of The Moons Symphony adventures unfolds. This trip has a so many amazing dimensions —Paul and I will be attending the Captain James Lovell (Apollo 8 astronaut) celebration on Thursday, Oct 17th, at @The Adler Planetarium And the following week, THE MOONS SYMPHONY takes an extraordinary mini "exploratory residency" at the iconic Yerkes Observatory. I'll also be presenting a special session on the music and science inspiration behind THE MOONS SYMPHONY on Thursday, Oct 24th, at Yerkes from 6 pm - 7 pm. Thrilled to share this moment, aligned with our passion for music, art, science, and space. A heartfelt thanks to Yerkes Observatory for this incredible opportunity! THE MOONS SYMPHONY eagerly anticipates diving into the inspiration archives, hopefully capped with celestial views through the 40-inch refractor telescope! It promises to be an immersive week of space, science, and historical wonder! More MOONS updates to reveal very soon..!

Museum and Library Professional with passions for history, archives, collections, and promoting accessibility.
Last week my team and I went to Yerkes Observatory for a full tour of the building. Learning about the history of Yerkes and the goals for the space was fascinating. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens there next, and hopefully some future collaboration opportunities.

We were thrilled to host interns from Yerkes Observatory at our #IngersollMachineTools facility! ?? This visit was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our role in producing the massive structure for the Giant Magellan Telescope (#GMTO), one of the world's most advanced #astronomical observatories. ?? The project highlights our expertise in #precisionengineering and innovation in scientific research. Engaging with the #NextGeneration of scientists and engineers is truly inspiring. ?? A big thanks to the interns for their enthusiasm and curiosity, and to everyone who made this visit possible. ?? #EnhancingFuturesTogether #YerkesObservatory #STEM #CamozziGroup

Eclipse day at Yerkes Observatory - sharing the moment of maximum eclipse with more than 300 folks on the observatory grounds made 90% feel like totality. Special shout out to my amazing colleagues - these events are so special because we make them happen together ??

Our latest project is Play/Space, a fully accessible adventureland based on a supernova. Designed by Denmark-based Monstrum, this 26 ft. tall & 7,000 sq. ft. universe of education and exploration has us wildly excited. The Blair Family Foundation has donated $500,000 to get us started and our Kickstarter campaign is underway in which they'll match any gift you give up to another half a million. Help us reach our $55,000 Kickstarter goal by the first week of May! More info and cool videos linked here. https://lnkd.in/gzi_9iF9

UChicago astronomers from Yerkes Observatory have studied solar eclipses since 1900. In total, they went on at least ten solar eclipse expeditions between 1900 and 1952, providing invaluable data to test fundamental physics. Learn more: https://ms.spr.ly/6048c0e8e
