We promote reproductive justice in Alabama and the Deep South.
关于我们
The Yellowhammer Fund is a 501(c)3 abortion advocacy and reproductive justice organization serving Alabama and the Deep South. We envision a society in which reproductive decisions are made free from coercion, shame, or state interference, a society in which individuals and communities have autonomy in making healthy choices regarding their bodies and their futures. We commit ourselves to community education and empowerment, policy advocacy, and the development of systems of mutual aid to ensure that our friends, families, and neighbors never go without the things they need.

One failure of the larger Reproductive rights movement is the singular focus on women's rights. Everyone, of all genders, has a reproductive story. Our movement is larger than pink merchandise and "the future is female" slogans. Reproductive Justice was coined in 1994 by 12 Black women frustrated by the lack of consideration and advocacy by larger movements on issues impacting marginalized communities. The founding mothers of RJ understood that justice was bigger than individual choice but should focus on communal liberation. To honor the history of RJ, our work must reflect its inherent values. Yes, this means advocating for abortion access. However, it also means understanding that abortion access doesn't just impact the pregnant person. It impacts the other parent, other family members who may be a part of the support system, other children of all genders, the economy, and the local community. The same is true for all reproductive health issues. Are we living in safe and sustainable communities if there are people who are statistically at a higher risk of maternal mortality, STI contractions, prostate cancer, domestic/sexual violence, and inadequate family support? Are we living in our values if we're not working through the lens of community care?

Spring Break isn’t just about the beach—it's about making sure people have what they need to have safe and empowered fun! For the second year in a row, we hit PCB to distribute FREE emergency contraception, condoms, and sexual health resources to Spring Breakers who were so excited to see us! But not everyone was happy to see us. A local business owner called the police on us—EVEN THOUGH we weren’t selling anything, weren’t asking for donations, and were just giving away free resources. Wild, right? But we don’t back down that easy. Instead of packing up, we found new ways to get people what they needed—because access to reproductive health shouldn’t be up for debate! Nothing’s stopping us from making sure YOU have the power to take care of yourself. See y’all next year, PCB! ??? #ReproJustice #SpringBreakResources #WeWontBackDown #YellowhammerFund

The nonprofit sector often operates from a scarcity mindset, hoarding funds for an undefined “rainy day.” But at Yellowhammer Fund, we recognize that our communities are already in the storm. That’s why our subgrantee program exists—to move money directly to grassroots organizations like Chocolate Milk Mommies, who are actively improving maternal and infant health outcomes for Black families. We believe in abundance, not austerity. In funding the work, not gatekeeping resources. In strengthening our communities now, not waiting for an emergency that has already arrived. By shifting our mindset and redistributing wealth, we build a future where reproductive justice isn’t just a vision—it’s a reality. #ReproductiveJustice #WealthRedistribution #AbundanceMindset #MutualAid #MaternalHealth

Honoring the Heart of Abortion Care: Abortion Provider Appreciation Day Today, on Abortion Provider Appreciation Day, we pause to recognize and uplift the dedicated providers who ensure our communities have access to compassionate, life-affirming abortion care. In a time when reproductive rights are under relentless attack—especially in the South—abortion providers remain unwavering in their commitment to autonomy, dignity, and justice. Abortion providers do more than provide healthcare. They listen without judgment, care without hesitation, and stand in the gap when politicians and systems fail us. They ensure that people—no matter their circumstances—have the power to make decisions about their own bodies, futures, and families. At Yellowhammer Fund, we know that abortion care is community care. We fight for a world where providers are not criminalized, harassed, or forced out of their own states just for doing their jobs. We stand in solidarity with every provider who has risked their safety, their livelihood, and their peace of mind to provide the care we all deserve. To every abortion provider: we see you, we honor you, and we will never stop fighting alongside you. Thank you for everything you do. ??? #AbortionProviderAppreciationDay #WeLoveAbortionProviders #ReproJustice

Today, we join the global effort to raise awareness about Human Papillomavirus (HPV) and its impact on health. HPV is the most common sexually transmitted infection, and while many infections clear on their own, some can lead to cancer if not detected and treated early. Let’s come together to share knowledge, reduce stigma, and empower individuals to make informed decisions about prevention and care. Education is key—talk to your healthcare provider about HPV vaccination and screenings, and help spread the word on how we can protect our health. #HPVAwareness #PreventionIsPower #HPVAwarenessDay #TakeChargeOfYourHealth
