Had the honor of returning back to California State Polytechnic University-Pomona campus to participate in guest speaker series for the Communication Department Cal Poly Pomona. Dr. Sunny Lie Owens was one of my favorite professors and it was surreal to be back in the same class where I learned Communication Theory. As a professional, I would say that my communication background is a critical driver to achieving my career goals. Here are three ways I use my communication degree daily: 1. Writing - whether it’s writing a proposal for a new contract or developing a workflow charter, being able to write is so important! 2. Presentations - being able to articulate a message while engaging stakeholders is a key change driver. WIFM - the what’s in it for me mentality should always drive the way you play to the audience. 3. 1:1 Team Collaboration- listening, empathy and negotiation are skills I rely on daily, whether it be with clients or our internal team.
