Despite public outcry, safety concerns, and calls for accountability, the Energy and Carbon Management Commission voted 4–1 to approve the Draco Well Pad—greenlighting a 26-well operation that will drill five miles horizontally beneath thousands of homes in Boulder County. The Town of Erie had urged the commission to reject the project or impose strict conditions if Alternative Location 4 remained unviable. Instead, the state moved forward. These will be some of the longest lateral drills ever attempted in Colorado—through densely populated neighborhoods. And the residents who live above it? They had no say.
