Yellow Jacket Drilling Services (YJD) has built its reputation throughout the Western U.S. as being a premier provider of high level drilling services focusing on safety, performance, quality and a cost effective service. YJD specializes in, but is not limited to, providing drilling services to the Environmental, Geotechnical, Mining, Water Supply and Energy market sectors. Some of our drilling methodologies include; Direct Push, Hollow-Stem Auger, Air Rotary, Mud Rotary, Sonic, Dual Wall Reverse Circulation (RC), Air Rotary Casing Hammer(ARCH), Under-Reaming Casing Advancement (Tubex/Stratex), Flooded Reverse, Conventional and Wireline Coring. Our diverse and ever growing fleet of equipment includes Hollow Stem Auger, Sonic and various Rotary drill rigs. With our fleet we have the capability to do everything from drilling in excess of 200’ with hollow stem auger, to drilling depths beyond 2,500’ using rotary techniques. Some of our specialized rigs allow us the ability to drill in difficult access settings such as under a service station canopy, in a building, on a barge, or on a remote hillside. Our fleet is maintained through a preventative maintenance program that enables us to operate at peak performance at all times. Safety is our number one priority and all YJD employees maintain numerous industry certifications including; 40-hour OSHA, MSHA, Smith Defensive Driving, as well as certification and participation in multiple safety programs such as API and LPS. Annual refreshers and medical monitoring are mandatory, as well as daily tailgate and monthly safety meetings. We believe that our EMR ratings with a yearly average below .75 is reflective of our efforts and commitment to safety. YJD’s corporate office is located in Phoenix, Arizona; we service projects across the Western States supported from facilities located in Arizona, California, and Oregon.

This year, we proudly celebrate a major milestone for our Arizona District Manager, Jake Lagana, 25 years of dedication to our company! Jake’s story is a testament to hard work, perseverance, and a love for drilling. At 18, he started as an auger rig helper, working closely with our owner. Under this mentorship, he not only honed his technical drilling skills but also developed strong communication and leadership abilities. His swift progression from helper to auger driller and eventually to the rotary division, where he discovered his favorite rig (the 50K), laid the foundation for his future achievements. Over the years, Jake has taken on key leadership roles, including Field Supervisor, Auger and Sonic Division Manager, and now serves as District Manager for our Arizona division, overseeing nearly 100 employees. His impact on the team and the industry is immeasurable, from mentoring new hires to optimizing drilling processes. When asked what he loves most about drilling, Jake says, “I have never stopped learning, and there is still so much more to learn every day.” His dedication to problem-solving, hard work, and growth has left a lasting legacy. His advice to young people interested in the drilling industry? “If you’re willing to work hard, problem-solve, and put in the effort, this field offers stability, great opportunities, and a rewarding career.” Jake, congratulations on this incredible milestone! Your leadership, knowledge, and passion for drilling inspire us all. Here’s to many more years of success!
