  • We are excited to announce the appointment of Denette Stanger as our new executive director, effective January 1, 2025. A native of Ogden, Stanger brings over 14 years of experience in victim services, nonprofit leadership, and advocacy to this vital role. This marks a significant new chapter for YCC as Ogden and Morgan counties are experiencing unprecedented growth and as YCC enters its 80th year of serving vulnerable populations. Stanger’s roots in Ogden and her deep understanding of the community make her uniquely suited to lead YCC. Her experience includes previous roles as the Victim Assistance Center Director at YCC and a key role at the Utah Office for Victims of Crime (UOVC). At UOVC, Stanger championed trauma-informed care initiatives and trained professionals statewide, ensuring services prioritized the well-being of both survivors and those who support them. “I am deeply honored to return to YCC and lead an organization that has been at the forefront of safety and support for those impacted by domestic violence and sexual assault,” said Stanger. “Growing up in Ogden I have a deep commitment to this area and look forward to collaborating with our dedicated staff and board. Because there are still victims of interpersonal violence and sexual abuse who have not yet sought care, we need to continue to expand our services and build strategic partnerships.? Every survivor must have access to safety and hope for a better life.” Stanger is known for her expertise in securing vital funding for victim services and her advocacy at both the state and federal levels. Her ability to navigate complex funding structures will be instrumental in advancing YCC’s capacity to serve its growing community. Angela Choberka, YCC Board President, is enthusiastic about Denettes new role: “Denette’s expertise and unwavering commitment to trauma-informed care make her the ideal leader for this role. Her vision and dedication will elevate YCC’s impact and ensure we continue to meet the needs of Weber and Morgan counties.” Under Stanger’s leadership, YCC aims to build on its recent accomplishments, including a successful capital campaign and the construction of transitional housing for survivors. With a focus on growth, innovation, and community engagement, YCC is poised to further its mission of empowering individuals and families on their journey to safe and healthy lives.

  • Join us in this year’s Spirit of Giving! Last year, we proudly provided gifts for 80 families at YCC, and this year, we hope to extend that impact even further. The winter months can be particularly challenging for survivors of domestic violence. Many face not only the emotional toll of their experiences but also the harsh realities of cold weather and financial strain. During this season, a simple gift—a toy for a child, a warm article of clothing, or a comforting book—can bring warmth and joy, helping to restore a sense of normalcy and hope. Your support directly aids families on their journey toward healing, reminding them that they are not alone in their struggles. Together, we can create a powerful ripple effect of kindness and compassion in our community. Sign up today at https://lnkd.in/gn7TeZpA to create a brighter future for families at YCC.

  • A recent 2023 survey revealed a concerning statistic: only 26% of Utahns believe that domestic violence is an issue in our state. This highlights the urgent need for awareness and education surrounding a topic that affects so many individuals and families. This past Tuesday, YCC had the privilege of attending the Dear Utah press conference at the Utah State Capitol. This state-wide campaign is dedicated to raising awareness about domestic violence and supporting survivors throughout Utah. The event gathered advocates, survivors, and community leaders who are committed to changing the narrative around domestic violence in our communities. As we reflect on the discussions and insights shared during the conference, it's clear that we must work collectively to ensure that everyone recognizes the prevalence of domestic violence and the impact it has on our society. Engaging in conversations, educating ourselves and others, and supporting initiatives like Dear Utah are crucial steps in fostering a safer environment for all. We encourage everyone to get involved in this important campaign. Your voice matters, and together we can amplify the message that domestic violence is indeed a pressing issue. For more information on how you can contribute and make a difference, visit the Dear Utah website at dear-utah.com. Let’s unite to support survivors and create a brighter future for our state!

  • Today, we are incredibly proud to announce that YCC Family Crisis Center is part of the statewide Dear Utah campaign, which officially launched this morning at the Utah State Capitol. This campaign brings together nonprofits across Utah to raise awareness about the critical issue of domestic violence and to amplify the voices of survivors. Domestic violence affects individuals and families in every community, and the Dear Utah campaign is a bold step toward sparking action and change. The statistics are staggering: 1 in 3 Utah women and 1 in 4 Utah men will experience domestic violence in their lifetimes. These numbers underscore the importance of this campaign and the work that organizations like YCC Family Crisis Center are doing to provide safety, support, and hope for those impacted. We invite you to join us in this crucial movement. Visit https://www.dear-utah.com/ to learn more about the campaign, hear survivor stories, and learn how to help make a difference. Together, we can create a safer, stronger Utah where everyone is free from the threat of domestic violence. #DearUtah #EndDomesticViolence #YCCFamilyCrisisCenter #CommunitySupport #Utah

  • As Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) 2024 takes off, YCC Family Crisis Center is deeply aligned with this year's theme: "Heal, Hold & Center." Domestic violence does not discriminate—it crosses all boundaries of race, age, gender, and socioeconomic status. This reality underscores the importance of a comprehensive approach that heals the deep wounds of violence, holds space for survivors to reclaim their power, and centers the voices and experiences of those most marginalized. At YCC, we witness daily the strength and resilience of survivors, especially those who navigate the intersecting challenges of anti-Blackness and other forms of systemic oppression. We are committed to embracing the many cultural ways that healing can take place, whether through community support, creative expression, or the re-establishment of safe and nurturing environments. Our mission to end domestic violence is inherently tied to the pursuit of social justice. We firmly believe that there is no true justice for survivors without addressing the racial and social inequalities that perpetuate violence and oppression. This DVAM, we encourage our community, partners, and allies to support our efforts in making a difference for survivors. By standing with us, you help ensure that every survivor is seen, heard, and supported, contributing to a future where healing and justice are within reach for all. • YCC Family Crisis Center is proud to have our Housing Assistance Center Manager, Ian Williams, representing us at the 19th International Conference on Shaken Baby Syndrome/Abusive Head Trauma. This global event brings awareness to the tragic impact of shaken baby syndrome (SBS), a form of child abuse often linked to environments where domestic violence and sexual assault occur. There is a critical correlation between domestic violence and incidents of SBS, as the stress and instability caused by abusive environments can tragically escalate into violence against the most vulnerable. Babies and toddlers are especially vulnerable due to their fragility, making incidents like SBS more likely in households suffering from violence or high tension. At YCC, we are committed to breaking this cycle by supporting survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Our comprehensive services include emergency shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and education. In addition to providing a safe space for survivors, we focus on addressing the root causes of domestic violence and helping families build healthier environments. Through prevention efforts, we aim to reduce the risk of child abuse and help prevent SBS. #EndDomesticViolence #ProtectOurChildren #YCCFamilyCrisisCenter
