Recently, our Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit donated two Yamaha WaveRunners to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission (FWC) to enhance the enforcement of the Weeki Wachee Springs Protection Zone. In July of 2023, FWC Commissioners approved the Springs Protection Zone, which prohibits beaching, mooring, anchoring, and grounding of vessels on the spring run of the Weeki Wachee River extending from the spring boil within Weeki Wachee State Park to the Rogers Park Boat Ramp. “Together with our partners in Hernando County we are working to ensure the beauty of the Weeki Wachee River is protected and preserved for the continued enjoyment of future generations,” said Maj. Evan Laskowski, Southwest Regional Commander. “The PWCs allow our officers to patrol more efficiently within the confines of the river and spring run, and we are very appreciative of Yamaha for providing us with these valuable tools.” The Springs Protection Zone is designed to protect the ecology of the river and does not limit public access to the spring, regulating only vessel activity. Congratulations to our very own Willie Gay,?who?reached a tremendous milestone of 50 years with Yamaha. Willie began his career with Yamaha in 1974, when?Yamaha Music and Yamaha Motor were together under one roof and collectively known as Yamaha International, with headquarters in Buena Park, California.?Willie was the?very?first employee at our then-Atlanta Warehouse and Distribution Center located at 190 Selig Drive in Atlanta, where he worked as a Discrepancy & QA Clerk when motorcycles and snowmobiles were our exclusive products. Willie worked at that facility for 25 years until moving to the then-new Kennesaw?facility?where he worked in Parts & Accessories for “Team Kennesaw.”?Later?on, he transitioned to Parts & Accessory Sales with the Watercraft Group?and?he?just relocated with the rest of the Watercraft Team to the Marine Innovation Center. One of Willie’s most memorable times at Yamaha was attending the Daytona 200? when Kenny Roberts won back-to-back in 1983-1984?and?he?fondly remembers the dinner celebrations with?both?Kenny and Eddie Lawson. Willie is also a proud veteran and served a 6-month term in Vietnam, and we want to thank him for his service to our country.
