I’m in the process of becoming a Big and living out the mission I have supported for 4 years. I encourage you to donate to this cause so near and dear to my heart and to consider being a Big too! https://lnkd.in/eatiZsa7
As we kick off Give Miami Day, I reflect on my personal journey because my story is all about mentorship. As a staff member of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami for 18 years, my passion for this organization stems from my humble beginnings of being raised in inner-city Toledo, Ohio. I was raised by a single mother who did everything she could to take care of me, her baby boy. I needed additional coaching, guidance, and exposure to help make me the man I am today. My mentors included: my track coach, Ron Schlievert, who is 91 years old and still motivating me, high school administrators, Mr. Norris, Mr. Boblitt, and Mrs. Powell, who guided me as a young high school leader. Their mentorship led to me receiving a college scholarship to the University of Toledo, where I met Eric Stockard and Kent Hopkins who helped me become a business professional. Last but not least, my late high school, principal, Mr. James E. Ray, who put a microphone in my hand that I have never put down. May he rest in peace. Every day, I witness the profound impact that caring volunteers have on our community, helping young people build confidence, explore new opportunities, and dream bigger. Join me in shaping a brighter future for Miami’s youth. Your support today will create lasting change and open doors to new possibilities. Together, we can ensure that every young person has the chance to thrive. Kent Hopkins Bowsher High School The University of Toledo City of Toledo Eric Hutchinson Eric J.
