What do parents really want to know about their child’s Montessori education? As a Montessori practitioner, I could talk about the importance of a developmental education for hours, but I doubt parents would want to listen to that. In my recent conversation with Kelly Jonelis and Isabella C., founder of Y Montessori, we examined the question of what parents really want to know through the lens of new data curated by Isabella and her team. Isabella started her work as a Montessori parent, asking the question “what’s going on in my child’s Montessori classroom?” This question led her to interview parents across California to support local Montessori schools in creating opportunities for parent communication and education that families actually want to attend; and she’s just getting started! When My Child’s Learning Became a “Black Box,” I Took Action! During the pandemic, I homeschooled my two daughters using Montessori philosophy for 18 months. When they returned to their Montessori schools, I was shocked to find that their learning had become a "black box" for me. As I spoke with other Montessori parents, I quickly realized I wasn’t alone. When parents don’t understand their child’s learning, it creates uncertainty and confusion, which can ultimately lead families to leave Montessori education—especially when free public schooling is an option. As a passionate Montessori advocate, it saddened me to see so many older children leaving my daughter’s primary classroom, leaving her as the only older child. I knew there had to be a solution to: ? Inform and invite parents into their child's Montessori learning journey. ? Educate them on the value of Montessori and the reasons to stay. Four Days Until Our February Montessori #Data Report! Here’s a sneak peek into what we’ve uncovered: In our February Montessori #Data Report, we analyzed the first paragraph of school descriptions from over 1,300 Montessori school websites, Facebook pages, and Yelp listings across California. Using text bubble analysis, we identified the most frequently used words and key patterns in communication. ??
