??Startup & Multinational Collaboration: Can it Help Scale Innovations? XIL's Director of Partnerships Accelerator, Oliver Puckering was at Aquatech Amsterdam this week sharing how Xylem and Xylem Innovation Labs is working WITH startups to help de-risk technology adoption ?? for our customers. ?? Not everyone agrees (and that's ok)! There are so many differences between startups and multinationals - of course it won't be love ?? at first sight. There can be a learning curve when "dating" in partnership, especially considering differing priorities, resources, speed and agility, and THE BIG ONE willingness to take on risk. But those differences can also provide opportunities for mutual benefits and fresh perspectives??! ??Communication is key??. Startups shouldn't be afraid to express their needs in the partnership! It's essential to not only listen to each other but also to understand what your customers need to ensure the partnership is the right fit from cultural, business, and future perspectives. Huge kudos to fellow panelists ?? Tom Williams (Enebio Ltd), Eliza Roberts (Microsoft), Karina Pe?a (FieldFactors), and Will Sarni for providing such a great conversation and amazing insights! #xylem #letssolvewater #AquaTech2025 #AquaTechInnovationForum #waterinnovation #corporateinnovation #corporateventurecapital #partnerships #openinnovation #Accelerator #startups

?? We love these insights from Isle Utilities Benjamin Tam! We couldn't agree more that to move the needle forward we need "If we want real impact, we need better alignment, earlier engagement, and more flexible financing. No more pilots that go nowhere—we need clear pathways to full deployment." That is why we continue to support programs and partners like Isle Utilities and Trial Reservoir ?? .

?? Scaling Water Innovation: Meeting expectations The Aquatech Innovation Forum #3 tackled a big theme: 'Aligning action to scale water solutions'. When I think of this, one quote comes to mind: “Today’s unspoken expectations are tomorrow’s frustrations.” The water sector has a huge opportunity in the coming years to align expectations and fast-track new solutions to tackle the challenges ahead. Thanks to the audience for getting involved and sharing great insights. We grouped the room into three key perspectives—Technology Providers, Water Utilities, and Investors. There was a lot of great input and here are a few of the takeaways as to what each group expects to accelerate progress: ?? Utilities: Need clear KPIs for pilots to inform adoption, have a preference for plug-and-play solutions that integrate with existing systems. But they need better regulatory clarity and procurement flexibility to speed up adoption. ?? Investors: Need commitment from utilities beyond the pilot stage to understand the investment potential. That feedback from utilities is critical and more could be done in dialogue (well referenced by Matt Simpson) They’re also looking for blended finance models (VC + grants + infrastructure funds) and alignment with upcoming regulations. ?? Tech Providers: Need faster decisions from utilities, clear roadmaps from pilot to scale, and standardisation across the sector. They also need funding structures that match water’s long adoption cycles. Having more visibility across the utility earlier would also speed things up. If we want real impact, we need better alignment, earlier engagement, and more flexible financing. No more pilots that go nowhere—we need clear pathways to full deployment. It felt as if in the room we could meet a lot of the expectations and get things moving. Massive thanks to the panel Karsten Lumbye Jensen Karen J. ???? Happy International Women’s Day! Pictured below is this year’s Xylem Executive Development Program and senior leadership team. It blew me away that our cohort was >50% women. A first for any leadership environment I’ve been in not specifically geared toward women. An incredible testament for the direction we are moving in, but one that we mustn’t take for granted and have to continue to build with intention. A few actions I pledge to continue in my daily professional life — ??????Mentor early to mid-career women in STEM ??????Ensure diverse recruiting practices ????♀?Advocate for and celebrate the achievements of all team members Welcome other actionable ideas we can implement to support women in the workplace ?? #InternationalWomensDay #WomeninTech #WomenofWater

It was great to attend the SVB & SwitchPitch Innovation Boston Event last night exploring corporate/startup partnerships – a topic that I live every day in my role as an Innovation Manager with Xylem Innovation Labs (XIL). A lot of interesting points and experiences shared. The four that struck me the most from Christopher Leary, Scott Weller, Mark Pacelle, and Michael Goldstein: ?? The different viewpoints on product readiness between corporations and startups ?? Value of sponsorship (especially at a high level ?P/L owner level) in an organization and in increasing the “surface area” of who is engaging – for us in XIL, one of the key tasks that we focus on. ?? The benefit for corporations to have a central team providing structure and process in engaging with outside innovators ?? The value in straightforward questions upfront to ensure alignment on items such as what does joint success look like, what info is required for the next decision to be made, and what will timelines need to be. Point 3 describes XIL really well - I promise it wasn’t myself who made it! Looking forward to continuing to learn what can help Xylem and innovators partner and appreciate everyone sharing their insights.
