????????????’?? ???????????????????? ???? ?????????????? ???? ???????? ?????? ?????????????????????????? ???????????????????? Europe is committed to improving the quality of life of its citizens and fostering the growth of businesses based on the continent. This commitment must be addressed from all perspectives and with all available tools, including emerging virtual and augmented reality technologies, by exploring their real-world applications. In this context, the European Commission recently convened public and private organizations to discuss virtual worlds and generate ideas for future joint efforts. The institution hosted a meeting of the Virtual and Augmented Reality Industrial Coalition, bringing together more than 110 participants from 80 public and private organizations for a day of discussions and constructive proposals. According to Yvonne Volman, Director of the DG CNECT (Directorate-General for Communications Networks, Content and Technology), the EU's priorities include enhancing the competitiveness of SMEs, simplifying administrative procedures, and establishing a new multiannual financial framework designed to facilitate support for research and innovation. Rehana Schwinninger-Ladak and Anne Bajart, heads of the Interactive Technologies Unit, outlined the foundations of the Virtual Worlds Partnership, which aims to develop and promote a thriving industrial and end-user ecosystem within the EU. This ecosystem will cover all aspects of the value chain, engage with individuals and society, and encourage active participation in these Virtual Worlds. During this event, I had the opportunity to present the XR2Industry project, which specifically seeks to adapt virtual reality to industrial needs by developing advanced prototype solutions to address common challenges in areas such as assembly, maintenance, remote operations, training, design, and logistics—while keeping worker well-being at the core of the production process. Among the various consortium members driving this project, the Universitat Politècnica de València (UPV) and LabLENI play a crucial role in assessing the impact of this Industry 5.0 transformation on workers, a paradigm we are actively promoting within the European Union. Public-private collaboration and real societal needs must guide the European Union’s approach to developing and fostering research in these emerging technologies. The practical applications are vast, and only through collaboration and public debate can Europe position itself at the forefront of both technological and social advancements.
