I keep exploring the open-ended aesthetics of an emerging medium — 3D Gaussian Splatting. This time, my aim was to go beyond a mere technical demo! The subject of this work is Pró?na Street in Warsaw, one of the few remaining streets from the Warsaw Ghetto that survived the devastation of World War II. While much of its surroundings were reduced to ruins and immeasurable rubble, remnants of that past still lie beneath the surface of modern-day Warsaw. The unique aesthetics of 3D Gaussian Splatting — ranging from near-photorealistic visuals to image glitches, incoherent light refractions, and reflections — aligns perfectly with my creative vision. My goal was to render visible the layered history of Pró?na Street and its buildings, which exist in a liminal space: between a city that no longer exists, destroyed by war, and a partially revitalized neighborhood built atop its buried past. The first time I saw how 3DGS processing produced a photorealistic rendering of tenements juxtaposed with their abstract and glitchy "roots", I realized that I could make this duality visible. The animation was developed in Unity 3D using a 3DGS plugin developed by XGRIDS. This project began with my interest in capturing nighttime scenes using 3DGS—a process widely regarded as far more challenging than capturing daylight scenes. Putting a shiny?3D car model into a Gaussian Splat Environment with the After Effects Advanced 3D - VFX breakdown. So here's my second test to see how the features of the new After Effects Advanced 3D can be used with 3DGS. I used the XGRIDS L2 scan of our parking lot and added an extra car. Can you tell which one? ?? There are some issues here since we don't have a hard shadow, just a contact shadow from the environment and inaccurate bright reflection in the rims underneath the car. Still, I'm very pleased with the way the reflections on the car turned out. We're excited to share our latest video featuring a detailed #Lixel K1 scan of the Ng King Market Gardens in Ashburton – a project completed as a demonstration of our scanning and modelling technology for Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga. This initiative not only demonstrates the cutting‐edge ability of our scanning technology but also plays a crucial role in digitally preserving a site rich in history and cultural significance. In the early 1920s, members of the Ng King family—immigrants from Taishan, China—established what would become the largest Chinese market garden in the South Island. Operating until 1964, the garden served as both a vital supplier of fresh produce and a community hub for early Chinese settlers. Recognising its profound historical importance, the Ashburton District Council partnered with Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga?and the Ng King descendants?to restore the site and secure its listing as a Category 1 Historic Place. As this was a demonstration project, we didn't have the opportunity to fully assess the site requirements beforehand. We only discovered the poor interior lighting once we were onsite. While the #SLAMLiDAR performed flawlessly, we recognise that the #3DGS scan could benefit from recapturing the data with temporary lighting to ensure every detail is accurately documented, others might not notice but we like to have every angle photorealistic!
