Xavier Mission is an independent, non-profit organization addressing hunger, homelessness, and poverty. Since 1983, Xavier Mission has welcomed, served, and empowered our guests. At Xavier Mission, we strive for a future where all people, regardless of economic status, are treated with respect and are given the opportunity to realize their goals. We treat our guests with dignity, empower them to achieve self-sufficiency, and advocate for social justice in all we do. We operate five community outreach programs that provide a continuum of services to those facing difficult times: ?? The Welcome Table soup kitchen provides hot meals every Sunday afternoon. ?? The Clothing Room provides clean, casual, and professional clothing. ?? The Food Pantry provides a shopping-style selection of foods for families. ?? The Life-Skills Empowerment Programs (LSEP) provide life-skills workshops, mentoring, a support group, and trauma-informed services for unhoused individuals, unhoused veterans, and post-incarcerated individuals. ?? The Financial Assistance Program provides payments for rental arrears to help families and individuals avoid eviction. Each program is an opportunity for our guests to take a step toward achieving safety, stability, and self-sufficiency. Through these initiatives, we provide a continuum of compassionate care and support. Support our mission: https://xaviermission.org/donate/

Women’s history is a story of resilience, rebellion, and relentless change—a legacy of those who dared to challenge the status quo and demand a better world. One of the most powerful ways to honor their fight is by reading their stories and the stories of those who came before us. This Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting three must-read books that shine a light on the courage, strength, and determination of women throughout history: Ain’t I a Woman – bell hooks’ powerful exploration of the intersection of racism and sexism in the lives of Black women, challenging the way we understand feminism and history. The Woman’s Hour – The gripping, moment-by-moment account of the fierce battle to ratify the 19th Amendment and secure women’s right to vote—showing just how hard-fought the right to democracy was. Rebel Women: The Renegades, Viragos, and Heroines Who Changed the World – Rosalind Miles’ electrifying tribute to fearless women across time who defied expectations, shattered barriers, and reshaped history. These books remind us that progress has always been driven by those who refuse to be silent—the rebels, the risk-takers, the relentless fighters for justice. Let’s continue their work, celebrate their victories, and keep pushing forward. What’s your favorite book about women’s history? Drop your recommendations in the comments! ???? #WomensHistoryMonth #ReadHerStory #RebelWomen #HerVoiceMatters

Throughout history, women have been at the forefront of fighting for justice, dignity, and the rights of the unhoused, impoverished, and underserved. Dolores Huerta fearlessly championed the rights of farmworkers and led groundbreaking labor and civil rights movements with her iconic rallying cry, ?Sí, se puede! Jane Addams, a pioneer of social work, created safe havens like Hull House, proving that community and opportunity can transform lives. Sojourner Truth, born into slavery, became a relentless voice for abolition, women’s rights, and economic justice, reminding the world that ‘truth is powerful and it prevails.’ Their legacies live on in every woman who stands up, speaks out, and lifts others up. This Women’s History Month, we honor them—and the countless women continuing their fight today. #WomensHistoryMonth #TrailblazersForJustice #ChampionForTheUnhoused

Today, on The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, we recommit to the urgent and necessary work of dismantling racism in all its forms. Racism is not just an issue of the past—it persists in policies, systems, and everyday interactions that deny people the dignity, safety, and opportunities they deserve. At Xavier Mission, we believe that equity, justice, and compassion must be the foundation of our work. We see firsthand how racism fuels poverty, housing insecurity, and hunger—and we refuse to accept it as an unchangeable reality. Every meal served, every resource provided, and every voice amplified is part of the fight for a world where race never determines one’s access to dignity or survival. Eliminating racism is a collective responsibility. It requires courage, education, action, and the unwavering belief that a more just world is possible. Today and every day, we stand for justice, we stand for humanity, and we stand together. #EliminateRacism #DignityForAll #JusticeInAction

This World Happiness Day, we celebrate the power of kindness, community, and the simple yet profound ways we can bring light into someone’s life. ??: Taken of The Unframed Arts program for our guests at our Welcome Table #WorldHappinessDay #JoyThroughService #DignityForAll

At Xavier Mission, we see the power of social work every day. Social work is a phrase?that is tossed around a lot but I wonder if people ever stop to think about what it means. It's the work of bettering society. Social workers are often thought?of as soft, bleeding heart caregivers, who didn't have the chops to become psychologists. That couldn't be further from the truth. Social workers are strong, powerful, kick-ass individuals who get down and dirty doing work that?others don't want to deal with. Social workers are therapists, child protection officers, nonprofit executives, case managers, elected officials, and legislative advocates. They work in the fields of nonprofits, sports, science, medicine, veterinary medicine, politics, and forensics. Everywhere?that you see work being done to make people's lives better and to make society stronger, you'll find social workers leading the way. Especially now, with so much at risk and at stake, social workers are needed more than ever. So hug a social worker today and let them know that they matter and that what they are doing makes a difference! #WorldSocialWorkDay #SocialWorkIsEssential #ChampionsOfChange

The Article Is Out! ?? Back in October, we were honored to receive support from the West Side Community Fund—and now, Chelsea Community News is sharing our story! Thanks to WSCF, we’ve been able to continue providing culturally appropriate produce through our customer-choice food pantry, serving 400 households each month. With produce costs reaching up to $5,000 per month, this funding has been critical in keeping fresh, meaningful food on our neighbors’ tables. A huge thank you to WSCF for stepping up not once, but twice in 2024 to support our mission. ?? Read the full article here: https://lnkd.in/ekPPqTy5
