Did you know that we make 30 billion metric tons of concrete every year? ??Concrete is one of the most used materials on Earth—and one of the largest contributors to CO2 emissions. But, XPRIZE alumni team CarbonBuilt is changing the game with its revolutionary solution. CarbonBuilt, one of two grand prize winners of the NRG COSIA Carbon XPRIZE, is able to reduce the carbon footprint of concrete by more than 50% through its groundbreaking technology. “We were able to raise a Series A round very quickly and I think just having that validation from XPRIZE was able to convince investors that our technology was worth betting on. It kind of opened a lot of doors for us to get the funding we needed to build out our team and really commit to building a business.” - Camly Tran, Ph.D., Head of Operations at CarbonBuilt Learn more about how CarbonBuilt’s innovative, low-carbon concrete is set to reshape construction and the planet's future in this episode of XPRIZE Innovators. https://lnkd.in/gMbTj3my

Climate change has a drastic effect on wildfires, making wildfire seasons longer than they have ever been before. Longer wildfire seasons result in more days with poor air quality. This article from Phys.org mentions #XPRIZEWildfire, our 4-year, $11M global competition aimed at ending destructive wildfires.?https://lnkd.in/eadqBBqE “While everybody has some risk from poor air quality, some individuals are at higher risk of poor health outcomes. These include those at the extremes of age (the elderly and very young) as well as people who have pre-existing health conditions such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), or cardiovascular disease." - Dr. Kimberley Shoaf, professor in the U's Division of Public Health and Associate Chief for Community Engaged Scholarship This is why the work that XPRIZE Wildfire teams are doing is so important. Teams are working to shorten the time of detection, characterization, and rapid response to wildfires before they become destructive and help keep ecosystems and people both in active fire areas and on the front lines of wildfire management safe. Learn more about how solutions from XPRIZE Wildfire can help here. ?? https://lnkd.in/gfXbt6ch?

From the farmlands of Nagpur to the villages of Seoni, India, the #XPRIZECarbonRemoval team has been on the ground with finalist team Mati Carbon, exploring their innovative approach to Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) for carbon removal. ???? Mati works closely with smallholder farmers—who represent over 500 million globally—to apply basalt rock to croplands. This solution not only captures CO2 but also improves soil health, increases crop yields, and builds resilience against climate change. ???? Farmers like Rajesh Gupta are seeing real benefits. Gupta said, "Since using Mati, my crop yields have increased and diseases have decreased. It’s improving soil quality and reducing farming costs." Basalt, a volcanic rock rich in silicate minerals, is a perfect fit for ERW, it reacts with CO2 to help remove it from the atmosphere while supplying essential nutrients to the soil. Mati’s scalable solution is a game-changer for smallholder farmers facing climate challenges in the Global South. To learn more about Mati Carbon and the other XPRIZE Carbon Removal finalists, read our blog here. https://lnkd.in/gDjTiPaR
