“I fully support the U.S. Department of Education’s mission to eliminate discrimination from the country's education system. For too long universities, colleges, and K-12 schools have used discriminatory practices throughout their operations—from hiring and training employees, to admissions and scholarships, and even in human resources and classroom instruction. Last year I spearheaded a successful effort to eliminate the Office of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Wyoming. I am currently actively supporting a bill in our state legislature to terminate and defund DEI programs across all Wyoming governmental entities. The Wyoming Department of Education welcomes this Dear Colleague letter and all other efforts USED pursues to end the harmful practice of DEI. This is what true leadership looks like” said Megan Degenfelder, State Superintendent of Public Instruction for the Wyoming Department of Education. Degenfelder joined education leaders from across the country to praise the U.S. Department of Education’s Dear Colleague Letter for ending discriminatory racial preferences in education. The letter notified all schools that they must cease using race preferences and stereotypes as a factor in their admissions, hiring, promotion, compensation, scholarships, prizes, administrative support, sanctions, discipline, and beyond.
