Wycliffe has long been associated with outstanding pastoral care and in recent years has seen its academic reputation rocket with a new focus on securing high achievement while maintaining that pastoral excellence. Pupil progress is outstanding with the school appearing in the top 2% for A Levels and top 10% for GCSEs in the University of Durham’s value-added analysis for three consecutive years. The school does not set artificially high entry criteria and is largely non-selective. The school has a progressive outlook, values traditions and yet embraces new ideas where they are shown to support children’s development. ICT facilities are excellent and co-curricular opportunities abound. With excellent sports facilities and superb coaching, the school punches well above its own weight in major sports and has held one or more national squash championship titles for several years. Wycliffe is set on a beautiful greenfield site on the edge of the Cotswolds, yet has a main line railway station a few minutes’ walk away and the M5 five minutes by car.

On Sunday 24th November, the Wycliffe Choral Society will give a concert in the Wycliffe Chapel at 7.00pm. The concert will feature Year 13 pupil Eloise B performing Rutter’s gorgeous ‘Suite Antique’ as a flute soloist. In addition, Wycliffe Choral Society will sing Haydn’s ‘Nelson Mass’ and ‘Rutter’s Requiem’, featuring OW tenor soloist Sam Dressel. OW Matthew Denton will be leading the orchestra. The Wycliffian ‘Bold & Loyal’ Commendations The Wycliffian ‘Bold & Loyal’ Commendations are awarded to pupils four times a term and recognise significant and exceptional individual achievement across different aspects of school life. Bold and Loyal are the qualities chosen by our founder, G.W. Sibly, to reflect those of John Wycliffe, the 14th century English philosopher and reformer after whom the College is named. He was an independent thinker and certainly someone who throughout his life demonstrated a pioneering spirit in thought, word and deed! Bold awards recognise exceptional academic endeavour and independence of thought, achievements at a high level outside of school or for overcoming significant barriers in some way. Loyal awards are given where pupils demonstrate selflessness and kindness in their actions around school, or, for example, volunteer or give time to charity or community work outside of school. They may also recognise significant examples of leadership. Pupils across the Senior School are nominated for awards by staff with awards made by the Headmaster in his Study. As part of the Commendation, pupils are invited to sign their name in the Commendation Book, which serves as a permanent record for all awards.
