Julia de Burgos (1914–1953) was born on this day in 1914. The Puerto Rican poet, activist, and feminist from humble beginnings earned a scholarship to the University of Puerto Rico and became an elementary school teacher. In 1938, she published her first collection of poems, “Poema en veinte surcos” (“Poem in Twenty Furrows”). However, de Burgos struggled in Puerto Rico’s intellectual circles because her poetry often addressed colonialism and racial injustice, as well as her race and her status as a divorced woman. After her death in 1953, de Burgos gained recognition and was considered a precursor to the Nuyorican (New York and Puerto Rico) literary movement. After meeting in 1940, Arnaz and Ball married and changed television as the stars of “I Love Lucy,” bringing laughter into millions of homes while breaking barriers. On Valentine’s Day, love stories take center stage. But not all love stories are about romance. Some are about admiration, respect, and the deep connections that shape who we are. So today, while many celebrate romantic love, let’s also recognize the mentors, role models, and guiding voices who leave a lasting imprint on our lives. "Growing up, I was a huge fan of Yankees catcher, Thurman Munson. And when my husband Jorge Posada retired from the Yankees, Mrs. Munson was one of the guests invited to speak at his press conference. And at one point she turns to me and says, 'I never thought I would ever fall in love with another Yankees catcher. But I have fallen in love with your husband.' And I thought that's just priceless! That's amazing! And I just admire her so much -- her strength, how she always has the right thing to say. And there was one more thing she said to me, she said, 'I know you're on the right path and I know you're doing great things. And in whatever you do, be honest and be real, because if you're not, people will always see through it.' So that is something that has stayed with me and is always on my mind. So whenever I'm doing an interview, a conference presentation, a red carpet, whatever, what you're going to get from me is real. And you can say I owe that to Mrs. Thurman Munson." - Laura Posada, TV Personality, Philanthropist. Immigrant Archive Project testimony.

Maná becomes the first Spanish-language band nominated for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. The band celebrated the accomplishment by dedicating their nomination to immigrants in the United States. Here’s Maná’s lead guitarist, Sergio Vallín, responding to whether the band ever planned to record in English: "I believe people resonate when something is real. We sing in Spanish. We are a Latin band, and our lyrics are in Spanish. People, I believe, appreciate that we speak to them in their language. In fact, its beautiful that some textbooks in the United States use our band's songs to help students learn some things in Spanish. That’s wonderful, isn’t it? It’s amazing! I don’t know if at some point we’ll create a song that incorporates some English lyrics, but if we did, it would mainly be to communicate more. But so far, I think we’ve done well sticking to what we do. For example, we’re going to Israel soon, and that’s really cool—watching people who don’t understand the lyrics, and yet the music still stirs something inside them. That happened to me, too. For example, the first time I listened to The Beatles, I didn’t understand anything they were saying, but it didn’t matter—I felt good, and that was what mattered. And so I think there’s something similar that goes on with Maná’s music." - Sergio Vallin, Lead Guitar, Maná. Immigrant Archive Project testimony.

"I am convinced that this country has given me an enormous opportunity. Before I became a McDonald's Owner/Operator, I was a Spanish teacher, so I have a great debt of gratitude to my Hispanic heritage, and I also owe a great debt to this nation. Since the day I joined McDonald's, my goal was to bring McDonald's and the U.S. Hispanic market together. I have always believed that what the Hispanic market offers can benefit any business in the United States. But they have to understand the market. You can't market to Hispanics with the same Anglo approach—you have to truly understand the Latino consumer. And that was my mission: to help McDonald's understand the Hispanic market opportunity, its benefits, and how to approach the market correctly. At the same time, it was about creating opportunities for Hispanics to work with McDonald's. Because McDonald's needs Latino Owner/Operators. McDonald's buys light bulbs, McDonald's buys paint, McDonald's buys everything. But people believe it's not accessible. The reality is, everything is possible. Although I still remain active in the business, my daughter Ana is now running our operation. She's very active within the McDonald's Hispanic Owner/Operators Association (MHOA), which I helped create decades earlier. And truth be told, she's doing a much better job of running the business!" - Roberto Madan, McDonald's Owner/Operator. Immigrant Archive Project testimony.

👉Why integrated #strategy matters:🎯 “#Brand and #performance marketing activities multiply each other, given that one role of #marketing feeds into the other. 💡Since most of your potential #audience isn’t yet ready to buy, you need to build favorable and relevant associations among potential category buyers so that, when they do come into the market, the brand comes to mind easily.”✅WARC
