Empowering Women and Youth Through Climate-Smart Agribusiness in Kakuma and Kalobeyei As part of our ongoing efforts to combat Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and substance abuse in Kakuma and Kalobeyei, Rehori is committed to transforming lives through sustainable solutions. We believe that true empowerment starts with economic independence. That’s why we’re advancing smart agribusiness practices, particularly in irrigation farming, to support women and youth in these semi-arid regions. Our kitchen gardens—shown in the photos below—are more than just food sources; they represent hope, resilience, and a pathway to self-reliance. By promoting climate-smart agriculture, we are not only addressing food insecurity but also building financial stability and reducing dependency among refugee and host communities. This initiative is especially critical in light of global challenges, such as the USAID funding freeze. In such trying times, Rehori stands on the frontlines, implementing sustainable solutions that equip our community to face hardship with dignity and strength. As refugees face the evolving dynamics of the Shiriaka Plan, our mission remains clear: empower women and youth to become the drivers of change, peace, and progress in their communities. Together, we’re cultivating not only crops—but a future full of possibilities. #Empowerment #SmartAgribusiness #ClimateAction #EndGBV #Kakuma #Kalobeyei #RefugeeResilience #FoodSecurity#FAO#WFP#ECHO#KKRIN#RELON/KENYA#GIZ#VUJANATWAWEZA@Abbey@salvador

REHORI 2-Day Refresher Training on PSEA/H, GBV, and Drug Substance Awareness REHORI successfully conducted a comprehensive two-day refresher training for its staff, focused on the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Harassment (PSEA/H), Gender-Based Violence (GBV), and drug substance awareness. The training brought together 23 staff members, 2 Board of Directors, 4 volunteers, and 1 community representative, demonstrating our commitment to building a safer, more informed community. The sessions were expertly facilitated by our esteemed partners from the Danish Refugee Council (DRC), with generous support from ECHO, to whom we extend our sincere gratitude. Key topics covered included Core Humanitarian Principles, Survivor-Centered Approaches, and effective Reporting Mechanisms for PSEA/H and GBV cases. Participants were actively engaged through participatory learning methods that fostered deeper understanding and practical skill development. This training marks a significant milestone in equipping REHORI personnel with the essential knowledge and tools to uphold our mission and vision: to educate, advocate, and eliminate all forms of GBV and exploitation in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. Through strengthened capacity, our team is now better prepared to support survivors, provide accurate information to the community, and ensure appropriate referral pathways are followed. REHORI continues to stand as a pillar in the fight against GBV, substance abuse, and human rights violations, ensuring that every individual in the community is informed about their rights and the available support systems. Mass Awareness on Ending FGM: Rehori’s Effort to Eradicate Harmful Cultural Practices Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) remains a deeply rooted cultural practice in many communities, posing severe health risks and violating human rights. To combat this harmful tradition, Rehori has taken a proactive role in mass awareness campaigns, engaging communities in Kakuma and Kalobeyei. On October 6, Rehori facilitated a crucial dialogue with community members, leaders, and stakeholders to challenge the societal norms that perpetuate FGM. With the generous support of ECHO, our key partner DRC, and the advocacy efforts of our international and local volunteers, including Abbey Deadman and KKRIN Management , we continue to foster meaningful conversations aimed at eliminating this practice. Through advocacy, education, and collaboration, we emphasize the health consequences, legal implications, and psychological effects of FGM. Our engagement strategy involves focus group discussions, community dialogues, and awareness forums at reception centers and food distribution points to ensure inclusivity and maximum impact. Additionally, with the support of RELON Kenya and UNHCR Kakuma, Rehori is strengthening partnerships to develop long-term interventions that prioritize education, survivor support, and alternative rites of passage for young girls. We believe that community-led solutions, combined with policy advocacy and resource mobilization, can lead to the total eradication of FGM. Ending FGM is possible, but it requires collective action. By empowering communities with knowledge and alternatives, we can break the cycle of harmful cultural norms and protect future generations. Together, we can end FGM and promote a safer, more equitable society for all. #EndFGM: Rehori’s Effort to Eradicate Harmful Cultural Practices FGM violates human rights! # Rehori, with support from @ECHO, @DRC, @RELON_Kenya, @UNHCR_Kakuma, and volunteers @AbbeyDeadman & @Krrin, is driving change in #Kakuma & #Kalobeyei. Through advocacy, education, & community dialogue, we can #EndFGM. Let’s unite to protect girls! 💪 #StopFGM #HumanRights #TogetherForChange

As we approach the conclusion of our 2024-2025 project cycle, Rehori is intensifying its efforts to raise awareness and sensitize the community on Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and Prevention from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA). We are engaging diverse strategies to reach every corner of Kakuma and Kalobeyei, ensuring that every individual understands their rights, the importance of prevention, and available support systems. Our initiatives include tap stand awareness, where we educate individuals at water collection points, door-to-door outreach to reach the most vulnerable, and community forums and focus group discussions with women, men, and youth. These platforms create safe spaces for open discussions on GBV, reporting mechanisms, referral pathways, and practical ways to challenge harmful social norms. Through these engagements, community members are sharing powerful testimonies of resilience and transformation. Many survivors and advocates are stepping forward to emphasize the importance of breaking the cycle of violence and fostering a culture of equality and respect. By teaching communities about power dynamics and cultural norms that perpetuate GBV, we are collectively working toward lasting change. Below are some inspiring moments captured during our workshops, reflecting the commitment of the people in our community to ending GBV and creating a safer society for all. Mass Awareness on GBV Sensitization in Kakuma and Kalobeyei Rehori continues to conduct impactful mass awareness campaigns at water points and community forums across Kakuma and Kalobeyei, sensitizing community members on Gender-Based Violence (GBV). These sessions focus on the forms, consequences, power dynamics, and impacts of GBV while highlighting referral pathways and essential services available. Key support contacts, such as the 1517 UNHCR hotline and the Danish Refugee Council (DRC) hotline and physical addresses, were shared to ensure survivors access medical, legal, and psychosocial assistance. During discussions, community members identified frequently occurring GBV cases in Kakuma and Kalobeyei, recommending a critical linkage between GBV mitigation and livelihood activities. Empowering women, particularly teenage mothers, through self-reliance initiatives can significantly reduce dependency and disrupt harmful power dynamics. Suggestions included agribusiness training, financial support, social entrepreneurship programs, and targeted support to build resilience and sustainable futures for survivors. These efforts align with our mission to foster safety, empowerment, and inclusion for all. Rehori is committed to collaborating with partners like UNHCR, DRC, KKRIN and RELON/KENYA and other stakeholders to amplify this impact and create a more equitable community. #GBVPrevention #WomenEmpowerment #TeenMothersSupport #RefugeeResilience #LivelihoodPrograms #UNHCR #DRC #Kakuma #Kalobeyei #CommunityEmpowerment
