Facing The Reign is the story of Jessa Thomas, the inspiring 17-year-old cowgirl from Kittitas County, Washington, who is the reigning #MissTeenRodeoWashington 2024 and the first African-American state title holder. Jessa's passion for caring for animals extends beyond the rodeo arena. At home on Windswept Farms, she raises miniature Herefords and looks after the farm's livestock. Her natural ability to care for animals has driven her to pursue her dream of becoming a veterinarian. As the first African American state title holder, Jessa is determined to provide greater representation for different demographics through her platform, "Be YOU-tiful." She encourages everyone to be proud of who they are and to embrace their uniqueness. Jessa believes that everyone should have the chance to experience the feeling of standing in an arena surrounded by a patriotic community, coming together to pray, cheer, and laugh. Dr. Sabine T., Executive Director of JSOL STUDIOS, joined us on The Day With Trae. Host TraeAnna Holiday spoke with Dr. Thomas about the organization's groundbreaking program, "Anchoring Our Roots." This initiative focuses on nurturing the parent-child relationship by empowering grandparents through coaching, education, and community-building. Dr. Thomas emphasized the program's focus on grandparents, stating, "We really, really, really wanted to focus on our grandparents. This gift that our elders are offering to our little ones...is exactly what we want to do." The program recognizes the vital role grandparents play in the family unit and seeks to support them in their legacy of love, guidance, and cultural transmission. Upcoming events on November 30th and December 19th will specifically address the needs of grandparents in the Black, Indigenous, and Latinx communities. These conversations will offer tools, skills, and connections to further nurture and support grandparents in their caregiving roles. Shifts don’t have to be comfortable, but you do have to push through them to get where you want to be. You have to ensure that what is happening in your life isn’t distracting you from reaching that final mile. I'm not saying that it is something easy to do, but pushing past discomfort is the only way to get to where you want to be. So, this week.
