? WuXi Advanced Therapies is a strong supporter of the Emily Whitehead Foundation and their mission to raise awareness and help fund advanced therapeutics like the one that saved Emily’s life.?? ? As many of you know, Emily was the first pediatric patient enrolled in what was then a highly experimental phase I clinical trial called CAR-T cell therapy at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and became the first child in the world to have her immune system trained to fight cancer. The experimental T-cell therapy worked and Emily is now approaching ten years cancer free. ? We are initiating a book club at WuXi Advanced Therapies and more than 70 of our employees have signed up to receive a copy of Emily’s story which was co-authored by Emily and her parents. The book, titled Praying for Emily: The Faith, Science, and Miracles that Saved Our Daughter?is a heart wrenching and compelling account of her journey.? ? What’s especially exciting is Tom Whitehead will visit our site at the Navy Yard in Philadelphia on Friday September 13th and join our inaugural book club meeting to discuss the book he authored and answer readers questions.?We can’t wait and will post pictures of his visit too!? ? #EmilyWhiteheadFoundation, #cartcelltherapy, #patientadvocacy, #cellandgenetherapy, #activatethecure ?
