All month-long, it was our mission to tell the stories of breast cancer survivors, drawing attention to early detection, treatment and survival. Yesterday, we hosted our annual Still Standing event here at WUSA9, inviting breast cancer survivors and advocates to join us in sharing information with music, good food, and giveaways. None of this could have been possible without our sponsors, who stand with us to support Breast Cancer Awareness. I’m filled with pride for and inspired by my mom, Sylvia Harris, who bravely fought and beat breast cancer – and a broken hip. Last weekend, she joined the Washington Commanders as part of the National Football League (NFL)’s Crucial Catch initiative, which not only unites the entire league to raise awareness and promote the importance of early detection for all forms of cancer, but is a reminder of the power of community and advocacy. My mom has always been an example of resilience and strength to me and my brother Gabe, and I’m honored to have joined her at the game in support of all those affected by this disease.?
