WURocketry is so excited to thank our newest sponsor, The Space Museum and Grissom Center in Bonne Terre, MO! The Space Museum and Grissom Center is a nonprofit collection of hundreds of aerospace aerospace artifacts from the earliest history of space travel until the present. It is an amazing educational experience located about an hour South of St. Louis and a must-see for anyone in the area interested in outer space exploration. WURocketry would also like to thank our members?Avery Boswell?and?Nina Fischer, who went out to speak to our new sponsor, as shown in the pictures below! Thanks again to the Space Museum and Grissom Center for their generous support of the WURocketry team. We are beyond grateful for the support of sponsors like you for assisting us in our mission to the stars.??? Interested in sponsoring WURocketry? Reach out to us on LinkedIn and we'll get back to you as soon as we can! #rocketry #spacemusem #spacemuseumandgrissomcenter #missouri #missourihistory #museums #nasa #nasausli #sponsor #grateful

Congratulations to our President, Estela Villacis, on her participation in the Washington University in St. Louis Summer Engineering Fellowship program! What an exciting experience! ?? ?? #summerhighlights #research
This summer I had the honor of being part of the 2024 Washington University in St. Louis Summer Engineering Fellowship cohort! Over the course of 10-weeks, I was able to conduct research in Dr. Philip Bayly's lab under the guidance of my mentor Dr. Kevin Eckstein. The motivation behind my research was to determine a phantom material to calibrate magnetic resonance elastography (MRE). MRE could then be used to study the properties of brain tissue noninvasively by imaging. During my research, I was able to fabricate polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA) lattices and embed them in PVA, characterize PVA-lattice composites, and determine whether they have consistent mechanical properties. Through testing done on the rheometer I was able to conclude that when designing a phantom to mimic brain properties, there will be a significant decrease in stiffness in PEGDA lattices. At the end of the summer, I had the opportunity to share my research to my peers at both the research symposium and the McKelvey Poster Palooza. It was amazing not only to share my research but to learn about what everyone else was doing this summer! I would like to thank the Washington University McKelvey School of Engineering for allowing me to conduct research this summer and Dr. Philip Bayly for allowing me to work in his lab. It has been an unforgettable and enriching experience as I enter my senior year. Additionally, I would like to thank Dr. Emily Boyd, Dr. Janie Brennan, and Dr. Sharniece Holland-Trogler, PhD for coordinating our industry tours, putting on social events, and providing support and feedback throughout the whole summer.

We are proud to feature our president, Estela Villacis, who recently completed her research in Philip Bayly's laboratory during the Washington University McKelvey School of Engineering Summer Engineering Fellowship Program! During this experience, she found a significant decrease in stiffness when finding a phantom to mimic brain properties. Congratulations, Estela! #research #summerhighlights
