Atlanta is a culturally dense, but physically sparse city with evolving cultural traditions and dietary needs. Our company seeks to provide a sustainable and economically feasible source of insect protein for this evolving community. As an impact enterprise, WUNDERgrubs provides agtech solutions to combat degradation of natural resources + food insecurity by: a) averting greenhouse emissions from agricultural production and landfills; b) converting types of waste into edible protein, and regenerative organic matter; and c) offering organizations charitable donation tax deductions, plus opportunities to generate income for metro Atlanta communities.

In collaboration with GEORGIA COUNCIL FOR INTERNATIONAL VISITORS (GCIV), U.S. Department of State International Visitor Leadership Program, Invest Atlanta, and the City of Atlanta Mayor's Office of Contract Compliance, MOIIA welcomed a cohort of women entrepreneurs from 15 African nations during their visit to Atlanta! We were also joined by Women Export University alums Shantaé M. Robinson (Iwi Fresh Garden Day Spa), Sarah Marske (Saramar Group), Evana Oli (Beautiful Curly Me), and Akissi Stokes-Nelson (WunderGrubs). These Atlanta-based founders shared their stories of success and inspired our visitors as they expand their own businesses. The group also received an extensive overview of Atlanta's #internationalbusiness landscape from MOIIA's Nicholas Mulkey and Invest Atlanta's Laurie Prickett, who are working to connect them to local contacts to begin exploring export opportunities. We thank them for considering Atlanta as a potential market, and hope they have a wonderful rest of their visit!

Kick off Women's History Month (and B Corp Month) with B Local Georgia at the Russell Innovation Center for Entrepreneurs on March 7th. This panel is going to be amazing. We have some amazing leaders, executives, and founders from our B Corp community (all of these companies are in varying stages of the certification process) who will share their stories, their work, and their why. Tanjuria Willis, whose company is in the final stages of B Corp certification, will moderate the panel featuring Adria Marshall of Ecoslay, Lauren Wishna of Dragon Army, Elizabeth M'balu Oke, MSc of PivotPath (our most recent GA B Corp), and Akissi Stokes-Nelson of WunderGrubs. We'll have plenty of networking, beverages from Atlantucky Brewing, food from Rashe M.'s Athens based Rashe's Cuisine Jamaican restaurant, and cookies from WunderGrubs. “The EU approved the sale of insects – namely crickets, locusts and darkling beetle larvae – for human consumption in early 2023, sparking a flurry of proposed regulations from the Italian government, including one aimed at ensuring insects are kept away from traditional dishes… However, by the time the regulations became official at the end of last year, the government had relented, instead imposing strict labelling rules, such as clearly stating the product’s origin and the requirement to use Acheta domesticus, the Latin for house cricket, on packets so as to make it a little less startling to the consumer.”
