Join us for our November Lunch Program to hear from Tina San and Fran Ruger on the VMT Reduction Branch in the Caltrans Director's Office of Sustainability. Housing, transportation, and the environment are all intertwined. When we address one, we must consider the effects on the others. Challenges like congestion, affordable housing, and climate change require rethinking how we build and support our communities. Register here: https://lnkd.in/gAeKGqi6 Following the passage of SB 743 (Steinberg, 2013), vehicle miles traveled (VMT) became a metric for determining transportation impacts under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). This shift reflected the State’s changing priorities to pivot away from prioritizing vehicular travel toward encouraging multi-modal transportation solutions as part of California’s efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and discourage sprawling development patterns. In September 2020, Caltrans adopted new guidance directing that induced VMT from highway capacity expansion should be analyzed, avoided, and/or mitigated when impacts are anticipated. Four years later, the Caltrans Director's Office of Sustainability continues to provide guidance on the analysis of VMT for projects on the State Highway System, including how to mitigate for capacity-increasing projects that induce VMT. In this lunch program, Tina San and Fran Ruger will provide information on SB 743 and VMT and explain Caltrans SB 743 implementation resources. They will talk through the steps to comply with the Caltrans review process and provide examples of ways to avoid inducing VMT as well as mitigate for it. They will update attendees on the current efforts to revise the Caltrans guidance documents: the Transportation Analysis Framework and the Transportation Analysis Under CEQA.?

I had a fantastic time attending the 11th Annual WTS Sacramento Fashion Show! ?? The models were all amazing, but I especially loved seeing APWA Sacramento Chapter President Shawn Leyva and my WTS mentor Kristin Parsons walk the runway!
