?? Good morning from Singapore! With 40 regional leaders across the public and private sector, we’re joining Representative Scott Peters in leading San Diego’s 2024 trade mission to Singapore. ?? Why #SDinSG? Gateway regions like Singapore-Malaysia and San Diego-Tijuana will anchor the critical supply chains of the future, an opportunity to strengthen economic prosperity for all. With shared expertise in knowledge-intensive industries, including AI, medical device manufacturing, and strategic technology, Singapore boasts satellite operations for some of San Diego’s premier innovators like Qualcomm, ResMed, and Illumina. Further, Singapore has poured $12.8B in FDI into the U.S. since 2019, and is a top 10 country investing VC into San Diego by deal count. Singapore also shares similarities to San Diego’s binational identity, with Singapore-Johor seeing nearly 1.6 times San Diego-Tijuana’s daily border crossings. Representative Scott Peters shares: “Singapore’s strategic position and expertise in innovation industries make it an ideal partner for our San Diego-Tijuana binational region. This trip with World Trade Center San Diego will help strengthen our global brand, drive investment, and bolster the resilience of our local businesses.” We’re joined this week by Councilmember Raul A. Campillo, as well as senior leaders from Ambix Ventures, Arup, Austal USA, Biolinq, The City of San Diego, Connect, Cubic Corporation, Curebound MiraCosta College, Mitsubishi Electric, Port of San Diego, Qualcomm, San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce, San Diego State University, San Diego Tourism Authority, San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance, Silver Creek Modular, The Conrad Prebys Foundation, Tijuana Economic Development Corporation, UC San Diego, and Visaic, Inc., and thank Qualcomm, Ambix Ventures, San Diego Tourism Authority, and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance for their generous sponsorship. Maximizing San Diego's economic competitiveness & prosperity through increased global engagement.
关于我们
Founded in 1994, World Trade Center San Diego (WTCSD) works to cultivate a pipeline of export-ready firms, maximize foreign direct investment opportunities, and enhance San Diego’s international identity in order to boost the region’s global fluency and competitiveness. In 2012, San Diego engaged with the Global Cities Initiative (GCI) in order to develop a data driven approach to trade and investment. The GCI – now comprised of more than 30 U.S. and international metros – seeks to help cities reorient their economies towards global markets. After three years of development and with input from more than 350 businesses, 30 regional partners launched the Go Global San Diego Initiative in March 2015. This trade and investment initiative was created to grow jobs by increasing exports, enhancing the region’s global identity and strengthening connections to the global markets that matter most to the region’s competitiveness. In late 2015, the Founding Partners – City of San Diego, Port of San Diego and San Diego County Regional Airport Authority – restructured WTCSD and relaunched it as an affiliate of San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation with a revitalized mandate to implement Go Global San Diego. Day 2 of our #SDinSG trade mission saw Representative Scott Peters, Councilmember Raul A. Campillo, and our delegation explore Singapore’s investment, genomics, housing, and tourism efforts. ?? Following a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong and US Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission Casey Mace, Enterprise Singapore, and Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB), our delegation visited Illumina’s Singapore office, which employs 2,000–more than 40% of which commute from Malaysia daily. ??? We continued the day at Temasek, a global investment company owned by the government of Singapore, where Representative Scott Peters and our delegation comprising companies Biolinq and #MetroConnectSD company Visaic, Inc. learned about the firm’s global reach and focus on digitization, sustainability, and healthcare. Our delegation then explored Singapore’s approach to high-quality, accessible housing with the Ministry of National Development Singapore, Arup, and SJ Group. ?? But it was dinner that was the wildest part of a jam-packed day, thanks to the globally renowned Mandai Wildlife Group's Singapore Zoo. On the 69-acre grounds, we enjoyed a fireside chat with San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance CEO Paul Baribault and Singapore Zoo CEO Mike Barclay, who spotlighted their economic impact and wildlife conservation efforts. Thank you to the San Diego Tourism Authority and San Diego Zoo Wildlife Alliance for your generous sponsorship!

?? With the world’s busiest border crossings, San Diego and Singapore share binational identities and strengths in life sciences, tech, and advanced manufacturing—presenting key opportunities for learning and collaboration. ?? Kicking off our first day of #SDinSG, Representative Scott Peters, Councilmember Raul A. Campillo, and WTCSD’s Nikia Clarke, Ph.D., as well as Tijuana Economic Development Corporation's Maria Cristina Hermosillo, Curebound's Anne Marbarger, and San Diego State University's Hala Madanat spotlighted our binational region’s strengths, incentives, and opportunities for investment to dozens of Singaporean investor prospects. Thank you to HSBC and Globalization Partners for generously hosting us. ?? We then explored the Woodlands Border Crossing between Singapore and Malaysia, its co-production dynamic with initiatives like its Special Economic Zone, and how the crossing manages such a large flow of goods and people across its borders—to the tune of more than 450,000 daily crossings, more than double San Diego’s San Ysidro Port of Entry. ?? Finally, our delegation visited Singapore Science Park to learn about Singapore’s TRUST health data exchange platform and discuss opportunities for data sharing and co-innovation, ultimately aiming to leverage space at universities and research institutions in both regions to support the exchange of companies working on either side of the Pacific. Thank you to CapitaLand, National Health Innovation Centre (NHIC), ClavystBio, and National University of Singapore for leading the discussion. Check back tomorrow for our second day of learning and connection in Singapore!
