WSUM is the student-run freeform radio station at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. With over 200 active members, WSUM is one of the country’s largest college radio stations and serves more than 197,000 listeners per year through 24/7/365 programming on its FM signal and internet radio streams. The station’s mission is to act in a service and outreach capacity to the people of Madison, to provide an educational environment for students of UW-Madison, and to be an alternative source of information and entertainment to our campus and community. WSUM returned from last week's IBS - Intercollegiate Broadcasting System, Inc. conference with some excellent news, and a trophy to boot. Congrats to WSUM Creative Director Eli Johnson on winning first place for Best Station Promotional Poster! On February 22, we celebrated WSUM's 23rd birthday in style! A contingent of our students trekked to Lambeau Field for the Wisconsin Broadcasters Assn Student Forum. It was a great day of learning and networking, followed by the WBA Student Awards for Excellence. WSUM came home with more than 10 awards and 3 scholarships. FIRST PLACE News Series/Documentary: Jasper Bernstein and Whitman Nichols Bottari Sports Story: Vincent Hesprich Promo: Lexi Spevacek PSA: Lexi Spevacek SECOND PLACE Newscast: Paige Stevenson, Oliver Gerharz, and Matthew Catalani Sports Story: Vincent Hesprich Public Affairs/Talk Show: Jasper Bernstein and Whitman Nichols Bottari THIRD PLACE Sports Show: Shannon Maynes, Krissy Birdsall, Annika Bereny, Alexandra Kearns, and Kate McGrann Sports Play-by-Play: Aidan Michaels PSA: Lexi Spevacek, Allison Lukas, Travis Parpart, and Mike Dawes WSUM members John Raider and Maddox Durst won awards for their excellent work in broadcasting outside of the station.
