We’re excited to support the European Commission in a pioneering initiative to help businesses transition away from hazardous substances! As part of this pilot project, we’re working with RI:SE, Green Chemical Design, Green Rose Chemistry, and Wyeside Consulting to research and test options for a future EU-wide network of chemical substitution centres. These centres will provide crucial support—particularly for SMEs—by identifying safer, more sustainable alternatives to hazardous chemicals. With growing recognition from the European Parliament of the need for greater industry support, this initiative will play a vital role in driving innovation and improving safety and sustainability across sectors. Paul has already kicked things off with visits to our Leeds and Sheffield offices. Next up, he'll be visiting regions like Scotland, the Midlands, South East, London, North, South West, North East, and East. During this tour, Paul will discuss our strategic goals, gather valuable feedback from colleagues, and showcase our UK&I strategy and recent brand refresh. As a trusted partner of London Gatwick for over 20 years, WSP has played a key role in the design and delivery of the Pier 6 extension—helping to set a new benchmark for airport infrastructure. Through our Future Ready? approach and in alignment with Gatwick’s 2nd Decade of Change sustainability agenda, our full engineering design has embraced Modern Methods of Construction to improve efficiency, safety, and cost while enhancing capacity and passenger experience. Our efforts have resulted in a 52% embodied carbon saving. WSP in the UK has been appointed as a highways infrastructure support partner for Wirral Council! ?? Over the next three years, we’ll work closely with the Council’s highway team, providing technical support across the entire project lifecycle of key Infrastructure projects. Our expertise will cover Highways, Transportation, Geotechnical, Drainage, Bridges, Streetlighting, Contract Management, and Procurement, with delivery led from our Liverpool office, which we re-opened last year and is now an important hub for over 170 colleagues. ?? We're applying this approach on several projects around the world to accelerate delivery, increase productivity, and improve quality and sustainability — creating more value for clients, much quicker. We aim to deliver a new, innovative way of working that drives efficiency across the built environment. It was great to hear Dale Sinclair, Head of Digital Innovation, share his insights from projects including Manchester Airport and the Environment Agency's depot programme, and discuss the need to shift from single projects to programmes to fully leverage the benefits of offsite manufacturing. For tomorrow's International Women’s Day, we celebrate the dedication, passion, and resilience of our Gender Inclusive Design Team. Their tireless work is about more than just gender inclusion—it’s about empowering communities, driving industry-wide change, and setting new safety standards. Safety in transport and public spaces is a fundamental right, but the reality for many, especially women, girls, and gender-diverse individuals, remains far from equitable. Our Gender Inclusive Design Team at WSP in the UK, winners of the UK&I WSP Future Ready Excellence Award, is turning this challenge into meaningful change. Founded in 2023, the team bridges the gap between research and real-world impact. Led by Susan Leadbetter, their efforts—including launching the Safety Inclusion Assessment (SIA) tool and influencing key policy changes like TfL’s Zero Tolerance to Sexual Harassment campaign—are making a lasting impact. #WomenofWSP #ForAllWomenAndGirls #IWD2025
