  • Army Test and Evaluation Command Commanding General and Command Sergeant Major visit White Sands Missile Range The Army Test and Evaluation Command Commanding General, Major General Patrick L. Gaydon and Command Sergeant Major Bradford L. Smith visited White Sands Missile Range and the White Sands Test Center as part of an initiative within the ATEC Next campaign plan. This plan supports efforts to better understand the unique capabilities at each ATEC installation and to recognize the excellence of employees across the formation. During his visit Gaydon presented Commander’s Coins to WSTC Program Analyst Nancy A. Perrigin, WSTC General Engineer Josh Jiron, WSTC Materials Engineer Manuel J. Berumen, WSTC Meteorologist Blaine C. Thomas and WSTC Electronics Technician Fabian Rosales for their best practices and contributions to the installation and testing capabilities. Perrigin developed a Power Business Intelligence dashboard that enables users to track statuses and ratings of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance, work order requests, and service order requests. This has provided a one stop shop to track these data elements from cradle to grave. Jiron was recognized for his 18 years of dedicated service and outstanding contributions to WSMR. As the Radiation Test Facility’s counterpart, Jiron plays a critical role in ensuring the safety and security of all operations. His meticulous attention to detail has enabled him to excel in the field of radiation testing. Additionally, he demonstrated exceptional leadership by providing training and oversight to personnel on temporary assignment at the RTF, helping to maintain the high standards of the facility. Berumen was recognized for his outstanding contributions and dedication to the organization. With 19 years of service, Berumen established himself as a subject matter expert and leader in his field. Since assuming the role of facility lead in 2010, he has ensured the safety of all personnel involved in radiation testing, demonstrating his commitment to excellence and accountability. Berumen provided expert support to various programs, including those for the Army, Navy, Air Force, and NASA. Blaine and Rosales created an internal tracking system of Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment assets for the meteorology branch which allows their team to update status and locations as well as prioritize these TMDE assets based off mission. This tracking system has enabled the team to go from a delinquency rate in the double digits to compliance with Army standard of a delinquency rate of two percent and below. Driving modernization on the range are the 1,500 civilian physicists, engineers, mathematicians and scientists just like these employees that were honored by Gaydon during his visit. On Feb. 6, White Sands Missile Range’s Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization, and Security (DPTMS) in partnership with New Mexico Game and Fish held a four-day Recreational off-highway vehicle safety course on the trails behind the golf course on post. The purpose of this course was to teach WSMR employees how to operate Utility Transport Vehicles (UTVs) and to become instructors on the course to train other employees as well. This training is available to directorates that have UTVs and need to dispatch them with properly trained drivers to access sites on the range that are hard to get to with standard government vehicles. In the future, these vehicles will facilitate faster retrieval of missiles, equipment and personnel at test sites with more ease and safety. “Many of our current vehicles cannot access test sites. Not only can our employees gain quicker access to these sites with UTVs, but they create less impact on both the vehicle and environment because of their lighter weight,” said WSMR Logistics Master Driver Hector Chavez. “I contacted Hector to ensure we had the instructors needed to get WSMR employees licensed on the UTVs so that people know how to legally operate these vehicles both on and off the installation’s roads. These vehicles are essential for our workforce because you can get to remote places on the range faster than you can with a standard vehicle. A huge reason why we have these is for our Bataan Memorial Death March so that we can get to people in need quickly if they get injured in between checkpoints,” said DPTMS Operations Specialist Justin Butt. “This training is available for both the public and other government agencies in the state. We are the only training organization here in New Mexico that offers it free of charge. We have four district offices and our headquarters are in Santa Fe, but we dispatch all over the state to train people. Anyone in the state that operates an off-highway vehicle on public land is required to register that vehicle. The money collected for these registrations along with grant money goes into our Trail Safety Fund and covers the cost of our operating budget, which is why we can train anyone for free. We heavily focus on public training, particularly with children who will be operating these vehicles to make sure that everyone who operates one is safe,” said New Mexico Game and Fish Off-Highway Vehicle Education Coordinator Christopher Johnson. WSMR DPTMS has plans to make a safety council that will write the usage policy on these UTVs so that others can get trained and gain access. This is in direct support to our safety and readiness initiatives that support our employees on post that carry out our crucial testing missions every day. • WSMR holds first entirely soldier led PrSM test out of Wingate WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M. (February 4, 2025) – On Dec. 11, White Sands Missile Range test officers in cooperation with U.S. Army Operational Test Command soldiers with the Fire Support Test Directorate conducted a Precision Strike Missile Limited User Test. This test was launched out of Fort Wingate Launch Complex to the dedicated target area of Yucca Point, New Mexico. “Flight tests at this range pose a challenge from instrumentation and safety requirements to fulfill the range flown. Despite harsh winter weather conditions, Team WSMR’s expertise and experience partnered with the soldiers conducting the test prevailed without impact to the test. Overall, the culmination of the support elements both internal and external ensured we met the test objectives for this flight test,” said Alejandro Gomez Jr., White Sands Missile Range PrSM Test Officer. This was the first PrSM flight test entirely led and launched by U.S. Army soldiers involving a High Mobility Artillery Rocket System launcher, which is an Army Long Range Precision Fires modernization priority and a significant milestone in the development of the program. Tests like this ensure the program is on track to yield reliable and accurate weapons systems for soldiers in the field. “I found the Precision Strike Missile’s Limited User Test eventful and exciting to be a part of. My role focuses on meticulous planning, coordination, and execution of the test. I ensure all test objectives are met by collaborating with WSMR, aligning resources, and designing realistic, Soldier-driven scenarios to collect operationally relevant data. The significance of this being the first soldier-led test is profound, it ensures the system is evaluated under real-world conditions, incorporates direct soldier feedback to optimize usability, and fosters trust in the equipment. This approach not only validates the system’s performance but also sets a precedent for future soldier-centered testing initiatives,” Sgt. 1st Class Maggie M. Heinrich's representatives visit White Sands School and explore ways to enhance educational opportunities for students Edward Tabet-Cubero, the Deputy Chief of Staff for New Mexico Senator Martin Heinrich, visited White Sands Missile Range on January 16, 2025, to tour White Sands School. In his role, Tabet-Cubero leads the senator’s initiatives in the education sector, leveraging his experience as a former principal and teacher. During his visit, he assessed the school’s condition and met with the leadership of both the school and the White Sands Missile Range to tour the facility. He was accompanied by his colleagues: Ashley Beyer, the Southern New Mexico Regional Director for Senator Heinrich, and Majd Mawla, a member of the senator’s Washington D.C. staff. “We are here to support however we can,” said Tabet-Cubero. “The senator is very clear on his direction to support the mission here at White Sands Missile Range, and that includes education.” The meeting included Col. Donyeill A. Mozer, the White Sands Missile Range Garrison Commander, and his Sergeant Major, Command Sgt. Maj. Jamal N. Latore. Steve Rodriguez, Chief of Operations for Las Cruces Public Schools, and James Dickerson, Principal of White Sands School, were also present. Tabet-Cubero and his team aimed to understand how their office could assist the school and identify its needs. Established in 1952, White Sands School is one of the oldest in the Las Cruces Public Schools district. They discussed various funding options, including the Public Schools on Military Installations program. This program provides funding for constructing, renovating, repairing, or expanding public schools located on military installations to address capacity and facility conditions issues. The senator’s team visited classrooms, engaged in conversations with students, and gained a thorough understanding of the school’s facilities. They also observed the available technology and noted the excellent maintenance of the facilities over the years, which is a result of the collaboration between the school’s leadership and White Sands Missile Range.

  • Join us for the Bataan Memorial Death March: Register today! This year, the Army is turning one year older than the nation it defends. The U.S. Army has dedicated itself to fighting and winning the nation’s wars for 250 years. Army veterans and their families have been an integral part of the communities they serve. One of the ways that WSMR honors the Army veterans in our communities is with the annual Bataan Memorial Death March marathon held on the installation every year. As we celebrate the 250th birthday of the United States Army, we reflect on the rich history and legacy of service, sacrifice and dedication of our Bataan Death March survivors and their descendants that are still part of our community and who also participate in our annual Bataan Memorial Death March on post. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a tribute to the heroic group of Soldiers who defended the Philippines during World War II. The prisoners were marched more than 60 miles to prisoner-of-war camps, approximately 10,000 died along the way, while thousands more died in the camps. The Bataan Memorial Death March is a grueling 26-mile race that takes place in the unforgiving high desert terrain of the White Sands Missile Range. There are two options for participating in the 26-mile race: individually or as part of a team. The distance of the non-competitive honorary march is 14.2 miles. To learn more and register for the March 22, 2025, race, please visit https://bataanmarch.com/ #Army250 #veterans #militaryfamilies #community #Army #beallyoucanbe #bataanmemorialdeathmarch #BMDM?
