A huge thank you to everyone who helped make last Friday’s Health Fair at the Red Oak Older Adult Center such a success! 🙌✨ From flu & COVID vaccines to yoga sessions, cooking demos, CPR training, and Alzheimer’s prevention info, it was a day packed with care, movement, and valuable knowledge. The mental well-being resources were also so meaningful to our community. Big shoutout to the amazing Red Oak Center staff for organizing such an impactful event! Your hard work made all the difference.

Fair Housing ensures that everyone, regardless of race, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, or disability, has the right to live free from housing discrimination. The Fair Housing Act (FHA), passed in 1968, prohibits discriminatory practices in renting, buying, and financing housing. Key aspects of Fair Housing include: - Protection from Discrimination: The FHA prevents discrimination in housing based on protected characteristics. - Equal Access: It ensures equal opportunities in housing, including access to better schools, healthcare, and jobs. Prohibited Practices: It makes it illegal for landlords, agents, or lenders to refuse housing or engage in practices like steering based on race, religion, or other protected factors. - Accessibility: New buildings must be accessible to people with disabilities, and landlords must accommodate disabled tenants. - Affirmative Duty: Laws encourage efforts to create inclusive communities, including adjustments for disabled tenants when feasible. Fair Housing Month, celebrated every April, honors the passage of the FHA and raises awareness of the ongoing challenges and progress in housing equity and accessibility.

We joined the #HandsOffHousing Rally demanding that DOGE stop their attempts to slash HUD staff and funding. Housing is a RIGHT and these cuts would only worsen the housing crisis.

This week, WSFSSH had the privilege of touring the Fischer Senior Apartments as it takes shape! Located in the Bronx, this new 9-story building will provide 105 affordable homes for seniors, including 54 units for formerly homeless individuals. The building will feature over 4,000 sq ft of amenities to support residents. We’re excited to see this project progress and can’t wait for it to open its doors later this year! #WSFSSH
