We won this project in 2018, shortly after establishing our New York office, and it became a defining moment for our small but growing team. With eleven projects at California State University Maritime Academy, WRNS Studio has played a key role in evolving this scenic waterfront campus, where cadets train for maritime careers. The 2032 Campus Plan laid the groundwork for both ongoing improvements and significant projects that enrich the campus experience, expand program offerings, and advance sustainability and resilience. The?plan’s?vision?is?most?prominently?realized?in?the?Academic?Core,?where?six?new?buildings?and?two?renovations?are?proposed.?By?shifting?the?Main?Quad?eastward,?the?plan?opens?the?Academic?Core?to?the?waterfront,?creating?stronger?connections?and?a?more?cohesive?arrangement?of?existing?and?future?facilities.

Final touches of custom plaster work are underway in this atrium at Elco Yards—six new blocks of life sciences, offices, retail, and housing organized around a dynamic public realm in Redwood City. Diverse building types, thoughtful massing, and a rich material palette, inside and out, create the impression of a neighborhood that has evolved over time. This recent project at Astor Place in NYC builds on over a decade of collaboration with Intuit on the West Coast. At its core: a bold approach to furniture reuse. We catalogued and repurposed 40+ mid-century pieces from the previous tenant, creating a curated collection that defines the space. ? During design, the timeline tightened from a year to just three months, demanding sharp focus and flexibility. We fast-tracked two permits during construction, while pulling diverse user identities into a cohesive expression of brand. ? The outcome?
