Did you know? Publishing in peer-reviewed journals can transform your CME writing business. Here's what I've discovered about the types of CME manuscripts education providers need help with: * Literature reviews that showcase clinical practice gaps * Case studies illustrating important education findings * Educational outcomes studies with measurable data * Technology integration research (e.g., AI in CME) * Interprofessional continuing education models As healthcare education evolves, CME writers who can help providers publish their work stand out from the competition. Feeling stuck in your CME writing business? Let’s talk about it. Freelancing in CME isn’t just about skill—it’s about mindset. ?? In a recent WriteCME Pro coaching session, we covered the highs and lows of freelancing: ?? The excitement of new opportunities ?? The frustration of slow client responses ?? The uncertainty of breaking into a specialized niche Here’s what I tell every CME writer feeling stuck: ?? Momentum takes time, but consistency wins. The first client is often the hardest to land, but once you do, the work snowballs. ?? Know the rhythm of the industry. Right now, CME providers are in full RFP mode—meaning they need writers yesterday. Are you positioning yourself as a go-to expert? ?? Your expertise is needed—yes, even in a competitive field. If you understand learning objectives, compliance, and outcomes reporting, you already have a skill set that many education providers struggle to find. Pro tip: If you want to explore what CME clients are likely working on, check out active RFPs. The ACEHP website is a great place to find them. #CMEWriting #FreelanceMedicalWriting #WriteCMEPro

A student taking my course Chart Your CME Writing Path recently asked how to use it in conjunction with my book, WriteCME Roadmap. Here's one way to use them together: Module 1 (Introduction to CME/CE): Review the book’s overview of the CME industry to understand its context, stakeholders, and terminology (Ch 1-3). Module 2 (CME/CE Context & Trends): Supplement the course with the book’s insights on evolving trends, including online learning, AI, interprofessional education (Ch 4, 5, 10). Module 3 (Competencies & Skills): Use the book to deepen your understanding of essential competencies like gap analysis, learning objectives, and storytelling. (Ch 6-9) Module 4 (Client & Project Types): Reference the book’s list of CME providers and project examples to identify clients that match your skills. (Ch 1) Module 5 (Identifying Gaps & Learning Opportunities): Use the book to research CME trends and understand what clients are looking for in freelance writers. (Ch 5, 6, 8) Module 6 (Leverage Skills & Showcase Portfolio): Apply the book’s tips for building a targeted portfolio and pitching your services to CME clients. (Ch 9-11) ________ ?? AI in CME – Friend, Foe, or Both? AI is changing the game in CME writing, but where should we draw the line? In WriteCME Pro coaching sessions, we’ve been having big conversations around AI in medical writing. The enthusiasm is real—CME providers are actively exploring AI for research, outcomes analysis, and more. But with great power comes… the need for ethical guardrails. ? Yes: AI can be a powerful assistant for literature searches and brainstorming agenda topics. ?? No: AI should not replace human expertise in developing fair and balanced, compliant CME content. ?? Disclose, disclose, disclose! If AI is used in manuscript development, journals require full transparency. Many medical writers worry about whether AI will replace us. But here’s my take: AI won’t replace expert writers—but writers who know how to use AI responsibly will replace those who don’t. Where do you stand on AI in CME? Powerful tool, ethical dilemma, or both? #CMEWriting #MedicalWriting #WriteCMEPro

How to Conduct a Literature Review: A Primer for Medical Writers As part of the 30-day sprint on #CME manuscript writing we're running in WriteCME Pro right now, some of our members are creating literature review-based manuscripts. A well-executed literature review not only lays the groundwork for CME interventions, but is also a potentially publishable asset. Here’s a step-by-step breakdown: 1?? Define Your Research Question Before diving into databases, clarify your focus. What are you investigating? What are the key concepts? 2?? Choose Your Keywords Use relevant keywords and Boolean operators (e.g., AND, OR) to refine your search. Example: ?? “artificial intelligence” AND “medical education” 3?? Select the Right Database The database you use affects the scope and quality of your findings. - PubMed → Best for clinical and medical education research - Scopus/Web of Science → Broader, multidisciplinary - Google Scholar → General but less curated 4?? Apply Inclusion & Exclusion Criteria Determine which studies meet your criteria: ? Relevant topics ? Peer-reviewed sources ? Gray literature Exclude studies that: ? Are outside your field of focus ? Lack credibility 5?? Use Backward Citation Searching - Review references in key articles to find additional relevant studies. This method uncovers hidden gems that don't always show up in your initial search. 6?? Review & Synthesize Findings - Organize results by themes (use NotebookLM or Tailwind) - Identify gaps in the literature - Summarize key takeaways ?? Pro Tip: Don't neglect the gray literature for #CME manuscripts. Reports, published survey findings, and more can enrich your insights. https://lnkd.in/gpDS2pxz #MedicalWriting #CME #LitReviewTips
