Meet Alexandra, the WPWMA's Fall 2024 Environmental Engineering Intern through the Roseville Joint Union High School District's Work Experience Education Training Program. When reviewing her experience on the WPWMA's Engineering Team, Alexandra said, "I learned a lot of new things throughout my internship like grading (my favorite), different types of composting, exactly how municipal solid waste is processed, and how to run and operate Civil 3D software. Overall, this internship was an amazing opportunity to learn about environmental engineering and how day-to-day operations in recycling work." While we'll miss Alexandra working at the WPWMA, we are wishing her all the best as she completes her senior year of high school and moves on to college!

When public customers and commercial refuse haulers come to drop materials off at the WPWMA, they check in at either our public or commercial scalehouses. Welcoming them, inspecting their loads, correctly directing them to drop-off sites, and accurately processing payments is the critical job of our team of Scalehouse Attendants. On any given day, more than 800 vehicles come to the WPWMA to drop off recycling, household hazardous waste, green waste, mixed waste, residential collection materials, food waste, and more. Our Scalehouse staff weighs in more than 2 million pounds of material to be processed every day. Next time you're at the WPWMA, be sure to thank your attendant for their hard work!
