PracticePoint was excited to welcome students from the Worcester Polytechnic Institute ME593: Machining Process and ME3320: Design of Machine Elements courses! The groups toured the PracticePoint facility as part of their classroom experience, which aimed to expose the students to real-world device manufacturing processes. Professor Yihao Zheng (MME) and PracticePoint technical operation manager Ge Zhu guided the class through the tour, explaining how medical devices progress from initial conceptualization to manufacturing and clinical testing. He also introduced the students to the unique features of the PracticePoint facility at WPI, where companies and academic researchers can transform their design ideas into reality using PracticePoint's state-of-the-art medical imaging (MRI, X-Ray etc), multimodal physiological sensing, and preclinical simulation technologies. #practicepoint #worcesterpolytechnicinstitute #mechanicalengineering #graduateschool #handsonlearning #machiningdesign

Full Circle Rich Santora, KARL STORZ and Bogdan Vernescu, Worcester Polytechnic Institute reconnected decades after Bogdan was Rich’s professor — this time both as executive leaders. Fittingly, KARL STORZ was a MassEcon finalist, with WPI as the event host. A great full-circle moment, highlighting the power of lasting professional relationships and collaboration.

Continuous Blood Pressure Monitoring & MA Start-Up Using a optomechanical sensor that interprets real-time SBP & DBP for every heartbeat from continuous video images of skin displacement over the radial artery at the wrist... WITHOUT the need for a traditional BP cuff. #ViTrack can continuously measure other vital signs: heart rate, respiratory rate, and advanced heart function parameters. Congratulations Dynocardia, Inc., past Massachusetts Technology Collaborative MeHi Sandbox Awardee, PracticePoint User & Advisory Board Member, achieving another significant milestone in their CNIBP journey! https://lnkd.in/eqrXmwtY
News: We are thrilled to announce Dynocardia has received a follow-up grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to accelerate the motion correction technology that is an inherent benefit of our fundamentally different approach to continuous, non-invasive #BloodPressure (cNIBP) monitoring. Lack of adequate motion correction remains an impediment to providing frequent BP monitoring for surgical and medical patients post #CriticalCare, as well as chronic #hypertension patients. Congratulations to DOCTOR Tess Meier, who recently successfully defended her dissertation titled, "Exploring Hand Exoskeleton Assistance and Rehabilitation through the Lens of Neuroscience". Assistive hand exoskeletons can leverage the principles of neuroplasticity to improve rehabilitation outcomes in individuals with hand impairment and speech aphasia after a brain injury. Tess is currently open to postdoctoral opportunities! Feel free to reach out to her at [email protected] Tess has used practically every suite in the PracticePoint facility for her wearable robotics research. "PracticePoint has allowed me to think bigger with my research questions, blending robotics engineering with neuroscience through the exploration of neuroimaging modalities in the neurotech suite and the MRI. The easy access to fMRI, MRI, fNIRS, Motion Capture and manufacturing equipment, coupled with the support of the staff, was crucial in maintaining my dissertation timeline. Not many places offer this level of flexibility and operational support.” "Exploring Hand Exoskeleton Assistance and Rehabilitation through the Lens of Neuroscience" Abstract:?Over 3 million people in the U.S. alone suffer from neurological chronic upper limb motor impairments and comorbidities, such as aphasia, which make it challenging or impossible to perform daily activities, adversely affecting quality of life. An assistive hand exoskeleton for powered finger extension and an equivalent MRI-compatible hand exoskeleton were developed to assist individuals with upper motor neuron injuries and study functionally relevant brain activation in parallel. Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) and functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) were used independently and concurrently to study the brain's response to rehabilitative hand movements facilitated by the exoskeleton, and functional tasks assisted by the hand exoskeleton. Voice control was proposed as a user interface that has the potential to improve speech aphasia outcomes in addition to motor function outcomes. The enabling technologies developed and tested in this work are just the beginning of realizing the vision of rehabilitation through assistive exoskeletons. #practicepoint #wpi #neuroscience #neuroimaging #medicalrobotics #exoskeleton #mri #phd #phddissertation #motioncapture #rehabilitation #fmri #fnirs
