I had the privilege of attending Techonomy 2024 by Worth Media Group. Shout out to Kayt Leonard for the invite! So impressed by the caliber of speakers and their ability to discuss complex items in laymen's terms. The conference underscored the importance of human creativity, adaptability, and ethical considerations in the age of AI. Also, pleasantly surprised by the amount of focus on people at an AI conference. If you want learnings from a true AI novice, continue below and feel free to share your thoughts! #Techonomy2024 . . X. Eyeé, CEO of Malo Santo on the regulatory landscape. I honestly feel much more confident in our ability to safely regulate AI and what it can do. Still recognizing that there's a long way to go. ? 19 states have passed AI laws, California is the leader in this space — home to 32/50 leading AI companies. In the past 45 days, 17 laws have been passed in California to ensure there are responsible guardrails for the deployment of GenAI. ? All eyes are on SB 1047 and the AI Safety Debate, and now mine are too! Christopher Licht, Former Chairman & CEO of CNN ? The “truth” will become a commodity. We will get to a point of paying for the most reliable information. I can see this happening already, but how will it impact those who can’t ‘afford’ it? David Shrier, Professor at Imperial College London ?? ? Incentivizing innovation: if you think about C-Suite tenure, it’s around 3-4 years, this encourages short-term gains. He discussed how innovation is like a J-curve taking 5-7 years to really feel the impact. How should these incentives be better aligned to support long term thinking (which has been proven to have an 83% ROI based on company performance)? ? Gave ?? takes on how automation will impact roles in law, software engineering, management consulting, and marketing — not just the every day/task oriented roles we often assume. Jaime Teevan, Chief Scientist at Microsoft ?? ? On the impact of Copilot: People with it on average read 11% fewer emails, create 10+ documents, workflows, processes, etc. While these are short term gains, they're very real measurable impacts on productivity. In the long term, more complex improvements will be seen to workflows more globally. ? Microsoft Office and SharePoint have saturated the market for decades. They created the Chief Scientist role (only 5 years back) to figure out where was the next disruption going to be and how will Microsoft be a part of that. Zulfikar Ramzan, Chief Scientist at Aura & Robert Costello, CIO at CISA emphasized the need for simplifying security for average consumers and local governments who may not have the resources to build robust cybersecurity arms themselves. Also, news to me on how long AI has been around, it's been embedded in login/security functions for forever it seems.

Purpose driven Marketing & Communications leader, Board member and volunteer committed to doing well by doing good for mission-focused nonprofit and for-profit organizations. If not me, who? If not now, when?
Earlier this week I was privileged to attend the Worth Media Group #Techonomy24 Conference on #AI with a focus on "Leading with Intelligence." Anytime I am in a room with so many people demonstrating intelligence -- the real, human kind -- I "collect" quotes to share. Here, listed simply in the order in which the speakers appeared in the agenda, are just a few of the meaningful thought-provoking turns of phrases created by biological brains (not verbatim, but in the spirit of their comments as reflected in my handwritten notes, which is a personal mnemonic device). The daylong conference encompassed a robust discussion on the future of artificial intelligence, the intersection of #tech and humanity, and the overriding need for #ethics as our North Star. So here goes... [Note: I wrote this myself despite urging of the LinkedIn AI app to edit and rewrite ?? ] "AI represents the democratization of knowledge" - Alex Bombeck, CEO, North Highland "Getting news and information is expensive; talking about it is cheap... Truth will become a commodity." - Christopher Licht, Former Chairman & CEO, CNN "AI requires accuracy, scale, security and speed." - Igor Jablokov, CEO & Founder, Pryon "Reskilling people and policy are key to what we do with AI." Umesh Sachdev, CoFounder & CEO, Uniphore "Areas of focus for 3 tech giants: Microsoft is about documentation; Google is about collaboration; Zoom is about action." Xuedong Huang, #CTO, Zoom Video (formerly with Microsoft) "Research has found AI is 50% gender biased and 25% gender AND racially biased. It is based upon what it finds in the dominant culture." Gloria Feldt, Founder and President, Take The Lead Women "I am less afraid of AI using my intellectual property, which helps expand my reach, than I am afraid it will use it BADLY." Gloria Feldt "Building AI is the first step. Making tech more human should be the next iteration." - James Francis, Founder, Artificial Integrity "We must dissolve the barriers between the private sector and government to drive positive change." Robert Silvers, Undersecretary, Office of Policy, Dept. of Homeland Security "Use imagination and collaboration, but know whether you seek transformative or productivity impacts." - Jina Krause-Vilmar, Pres. & CEO, Upwardly Global "80% of Sustainable Development Goals (#SDG) are stalled or regressed. AI can be a catalyst to reduce time and cost toward goals... Early warnings untethered to early action are wasted." - Alexander Díaz, Head of AI for Social Good, Google "#Technology shifts take generations to become established... transformation creates 20 years of pain and job loss, and 50-100 years to resolution." - David Shrier, Professor of Practice, AI & #Innovation, Imperial College London

"How many times is the most important point of your data buried in point number three on slide number 20 of some PowerPoint deck, and the CEO or the C-suite just doesn't get it?...In this kind of meeting, we completely change that dynamic. Everyone has the ability to see the detail that’s not over-summarized." At #Techonomy24, HTC VIVE's Daniel O'Brien and Flow Immersive's Jason Marsh shared their vision regarding the future of #VR for #Data Collaboration in #Finance.
